The author broaches a very explosive subject in our society today. Despite the fact he is a Christian theologian, he writes an objective pro and con piece trying to uncover the agendas for and against same-sex marriage. Ultimately, the author takes a traditional Christian approach to marriage as a union between a man and a woman but does so in a rational, thoughtful manner.

The almost militant pro-gay movement is exposed for what it is - not a push for two people of the same sex to explore a loving covenant relationship, but to push an "anything gay" or counter culture movement on a traditional judeo-christian based society and make any opposition look like intolerant bigots who should be silenced. Silenced by law.

The author also pulls back covering of the soft-white underbelly of the modern Christian church showing the hypocrisy and lack of unity in the church body as a whole. The church accepts, drug addiction, sex addiction and other sins into the congregation to foster treatment and ultimately overcome the problem. Yet same-sex marriage is a real stigma and Christ's message of salvation is not offered to these "worst" of all sinners.

Mr. Lutzer makes a plea for the Christian community to not condone same-sex marriage, but rather treat it as any other sin where those involved need understanding and love - with Christ's salvation, overcome it. He states the Christian bible is clear on the subject of homosexual behavior and its place in a human's selfish nature - a nature that is self-seeking and not God seeking - a base desire opposed to a higher purpose.

The book is full of website links and statistics that are very useful in developing an educated perspective of same-sex marriage. It directs you to information sources for and against the idea.

“I felt that it was a most comprehensive recount of what our responsibilities are towards God, our Creator. We cannot expect Him to overlook it when we disobey and dishonor Him with our actions. Among other things, God says in His Word, "Whatsoever a man sows, that will he also reap." If we disobey Him, we can't expect Him to bless us. By being true to His Word, if we disobey Him by engaging in any practice lifestyle that dishonors Him, He can't help but bring judgment upon us and we will encounter destruction as a result of us engaging any action that constitutes an abomination upon His Name.”

This book truly explains the beginnings and ultimate downfall of humanity as a whole. It provides excellent theology and historical knowledge of the progressive breakdown of morals and family values as influenced by our own selves. It also projects a prospective diminishing of the sanctity of marriage and family life altogether that will effect our children and grandchildren down the line.
It clearly answers the misrepresented Bible cliche that homosexual advocates use " God loves all" from God's intended rightful message which is love is not "a license to legitimatize sinful behavior . . ." It was like an awaken truth that explains the lies that have been built from decade to decade of a gay agenda that has been shrewdly planned using the strategies of pity, sympathy and portrayl of a victimized class. And little did I know that the breakdown of DOMA could lead to a limitless amount of catasprohes that would legitimize multiple partners marrying (polygamy), relatives marrying (endogamy), etc all due to a redefinition of marriage. So much so,other countries that are dealing with the same issue are debating whether should marriage even exist at all! Some are considering autonomy.
I am still reading this book, but as I read more and more, there are so much more truths that I feel gay advocates are hiding all in order to fulfill their agenda! Truths that they will not allow the media to announce, and quieting the voices of the righteous and good-nature individuals that are whole-heartedly trying to steer those in the light of truth. Truly scary, even for the most faithful believers. Yet it vividly shows not so much how the gay agenda's plan is succeeding, but how Satan's agenda is succeeding. Strongly recommend believers and non-believers to purchase and share this book with others.

I learned so much that I'd not heard before, I bought this book for my granddaughter, so she would learn some truths that are not talked about. Very informative.
I love anything Erwin Lutzer writes, it is easy to read and understand, with references to back up what is said. It is, indeed, the "Truth".

Truly here is a book that is destined to read years after the dust has settled and the author has gone to be with the lord - as an example of don't let this happen to you. For better or worse, the content is not as provocative as other books critical of homosexual marriage but never the less is still filled with the passive aggressive rhetoric and discriminatory bias that any critical mind would easily disregard. I am one of those people.

The truth about same sex marriage was Erwins Lutzer's entrance the homosexual marriage debate released in 2004 (on which my review is based. There is an updated edition released in 2010) that list six "facts" against homosexual marriage that appeal to religious convictions and some questionable secular arguments against homosexual culture. Citing a combination of the influence of the Church (and the lack there of) the author decries the impotence of conservatives and potency of the "gay agenda" the author reinforces the conservative interpretation of the Bible e.g., "one man to woman", "homosexuality is a sin", "think of the children!", and no historical precedence for homosexual marriage. Historically, its only the mostly thinly veiled rehashing of the most potent arguments anti-homosexual Christians had back in the day and still have now. In full disclosure, I am not a Christian. I am not Conservative. I do know what a good book is and this is not one of them. In a little bit more than ten years later, the rhetoric falls flat, the information contained is both questionable and outdated (It's mention of Exodus International is a major clue - it shutdown its operation in 2013).
