Editorial Reviews

This german band led by guitarist/ singer Arne Schäfer (two albums under the name APOGEE, FGBG 4142.AR and FGBG 4253.AR) and keyboardist Ekkehard Nahm is well known by the progressive audience for its second album "Disturbance" (FGBG 4216.AR ), released two years ago, acclaimed by everyone for its musical excellence. This new opus is in the same vein, maybe more inspired by Van Der Graaf Generator and Hammill than before, and with a more powerful rhythm section. Rejoining the great musical spirit of the seventies, Versus X combines a lot of influences (VDGG, Genesis, Yes, King Crimson, Pink Floyd…) to create an original and complex music. Long pieces ( 7, 13, 15 and 21 minutes!), dark atmospheres, philosophical lyrics (English singing), guitar and piano virtuosos, subtle harmonies… The best of modern progressive rock is to be found here!

Couldn't disagree with you more Bill. This album is exceptionally good. Vocals are fine too. Next you'll be saying The Watch, The Flower Kings, Cast and Galadriel are just average.
The Turbulent Zone is recommended highly.

This group is talented in every respect except in vocals. Arne Schafer would do very well to stick to the guitar and find a new vocalist. His voice turned me off faster than any I have ever heard. As if his voice wasn't bad enough, the choice of lyrics for this piece of work was terrible. If I had the equipment to do it, I would remove the vocals from this CD and be very satisfied with the remains. Listen closely before you buy.
