5.0 out of 5 stars To hell and back ! November 25, 2012
By Olive
I witnessed first hand the trip to hell of a coworker whose husband was an alcoholic. I just could not understand why this woman was taking all the abuse he was putting her through. She was smart, pretty, fun to be with, had a job good enough to support herself, grown children that would have supported her no matter what course of action she would choose ...
As I was expressing my concern about her and the fact that I was afraid for her mental and physical safety, a friend told me to read Margaret Joyce's book.
I strongly recommend you get this book for yourself if you see one of your friends on such a destructive path and want to comprehend the situation. Even better yet, get it for your friend who is in such a devastating situation to show her or him that there is indeed a light at the end of the tunnel and that it's not another train coming to run her or him over !

I keep this as ongoing reading on my kindle. It is an Al-Anon meeting in my pocket when I feel I need to review a few thoughts and ideas to put my mind in perspective of my situation.

4.0 out of 5 stars Loved and Hated October 22, 2013

I feel I am struggling with my father and his drinking habits. Alcohol has been present with my dad since my mother passed in '05 and has gotten tremendously worse in the last 6 months, when he found out he is a diabetic along with other health issues. My dad has been my best friend since my mother's passing and I feel disrespected by his actions and drinking habits. This book really helped me understand the disease better and inspired me to think more about people addiction and what reactions to this change in my life are appropriate-how to cope, find hope in, help my father, and live my life to the fullest.

Great read! I felt like I was reading about myself. The advice she gives is a "no brainer", but it's something you almost have to hear over and over.

Excellent book. Having been raised by an alcoholic, and then marrying one (some people just don't learn, LOL), this book really hit home with me. I would definitely recommend it to anyone living with an alcoholic, or really ANYONE with an alcoholic in their life.
