5.0 out of 5 stars Long before there was Harry Potter ..., April 20, 2009
Long before there was Harry Potter, there were Enid Blyton's boarding school books including the St Clare's, the Mallory Towers and the Naughtiest Girl series. The St Clare's series is about a pair of "stuck up twins" called Pat and Isabel who get sent to the "sensible" St Clare's boarding school by their parents who are concerned that they have acquired too many "airs and graces" at their previous school. They start out being very haughty and determined not to like anything about their new school (where they have to share a dormitory with other girls, play lacrosse instead of hockey and even do their own mending and run errands for the older girls) but quickly start to adjust to St Clare's ways and regret ever being so "horrid". My mother who was born in 1941 read these books as a girl and passed her love of them onto me. Now my 10yo daughter is reading them and loving them too. They are very un-PC in parts but that is part of what is so refreshing and entertaining reading them now. They are also very easy to read in a way that is quite similar to the Harry Potter books. I would highly recommend them to girls 8 years of age or older.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blyton book review, December 27, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Twins at ST Clares (Hardcover)
As a little girl I used to read Blyton's books in German. Now my girls are reading them in original English, and although quite a bit out-dated considering manners, habits and environment, human emotions and experiences at that age level stil remain. I highly recommend it, especially for mother/daughter read-aloud time. What wonderful memories...

This book is tops, and i cannot believe that i am the first person to review it! iam particularly attached to Janet, as i luv to play practical jokes! The twins acted like right pigs in the first part, but they soon became nice, thankfully.
