Then we get to the but...
If my brother and wife were missing at sea and presumed dead--or my business partner/best friend, for that matter--I would absolutely want more proof sooner, not later, that they actually were in some sort of witness protection program. I wouldn't be okay with going on the assumption that that's what was going on after being told of (or having) one conversation with the brother saying it was a possibility. I'd expect some kind of confirmation somehow and not be satisfied until I got it. (Especially since they're twins, and presumably even closer than your average siblings. Lauren mentions more than once about the whole "twin connection" thing, so you'd think...)
Almost all of the relationship conflict could have been solved in a single, honest, actual conversation. Instead, every time the two characters talked each only heard what they expected to hear and completely twisted around what was actually said to fit their preconceived ideas. Drove. Me. Crazy. Just talk, already!
In all, it was a decent book--it made for a pleasant morning's read--but it didn't quite live up to its potential. I would definitely give another book by this author a chance, however, in the hopes that this one was just a one-off.

I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
Lauren Peters had crossed off having children long ago and had also crossed off the possibility of a serious intimate relationship when the last ex she had ended up ditching her because of an irrevocable problem.
Mack Hansen, an eligible bachelor with countless arm candy at various social functions, swore he would never settle down, especially seeing how his father was after his mother left. Yet, he still remembers the one stolen kiss he got from his business partner's sister, the one person who he needed to remain totally hands off about. That person is none other than Lauren.
So when Callie (Lauren's niece, Mack's god daughter) is supposed to enter the foster system if neither of them could provide a two-parent household in the absence of Lauren's twin brother, who is Mack's business partner; Mack proposes a preposterous idea ... by proposing to Lauren to prevent the child Callie from entering an unknown home.
After her most serious ex dumped her, Lauren thought she'd never get close to anyone again. One stolen kiss with Mack and she has fantasized about the playboy for years. Entering a marriage for convenience with Mack was the last thing she ever thought she'd be doing. The fake marriage begins to feel too real, too fast. For both of them.
Plus there's baby Callie... Mack, with all his real estate acumen, fumbles through the fatherhood stuff. Imagine that! Playboy turned overnight father! :-) I love Shoshanna's characters! She sends them on a trip, and they somehow deliver a happily ever after.
Hilarious at times and book-throwing crazy at others, this sweet story is definitely a must-read!
Lauren has been having fantasies about Mack even before the crazy will is revealed. She knows she's going to have to protect her heart if she's going to make it through their fake marriage. After all, once her brother is found, the marriage is over, and Mack doesn't hesitate to let her know that. This might be her only chance at a husband and child, since she's unable to have children of her own. But Mack's the playboy type, and he's not ready for what he feels for Lauren -- as a matter of fact, he doesn't recognize it for what it is until it's almost too late. He's attracted to her and possibly falling in love.
While a lot of this story could be resolved with a heart-to-heart conversation, that doesn't quite happen, and for most of the book these two go back and forth fighting their sexual chemistry, trying not to hurt each each other, and just generally assuming things. Of course that makes for plenty of drama and misunderstanding between them.
It's pretty clear to this reader that communication is the real problem here, and it isn't until late in the book that they finally come to terms with their feelings for each other.Read more ›
