5.0 out of 5 stars The Unwanted Heiress March 6, 2012
By D
Adriana Lizonby may be an heiress but with the way her aunt has her dressed for her first ball, one would think she was a snowman with a healthy dose of icing all over. She is determined to change her look no matter what the cost. Little does she know that the change she wrought will have her looking so divine that a rakish earl will mistake her for a courtesan and that a few hours in his company will leave her reputation in tatters and her heart broken.

Jason Hume, Earl of Coldesdowne, is bored, and when he spies a beautiful courtesan in a salon he knows he must have her at all costs. When he realizes his mistake a little too late, he doesn't know what to do. Make her his mistress? It seems the only course for a rake like himself.

The Unwanted Heiress is a wonderful story that will pull you in and have you wanting more. I was drawn in from page one and found myself quickly turning the pages in enjoyment. I love my historicals and this does not disappoint. It combines some of my favorite elements; conflict and love, and ties them together to make a big impact.

Adriana is a great character. I enjoyed her foray into the unknown and her enjoyment of a day that was innocently forbidden. She was a breath of fresh air. When Jason is added into the mix, it makes a well-rounded story with interesting characters and a solid plot.

I enjoyed this book and will be on the lookout for more by this talented author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Reading! March 3, 2012
A neat miniature tale, The Unwanted Heiress touches the social mores and taboos of the times without adding lots of frills and side trips. A somewhat over-the-hill Adriana Lizonby goes to London to find a husband. Not up on rules of society in London, the rich, country-reared Adriana makes a social blunder that gives her the most exciting day of her life, but pretty well puts paid to her finding a husband among the eligible bachelors in town. She returns to the country post haste to keep from humiliating her aunt and the man she came to love in just a few hours.

Jason Hume, Fourth Earl of Coldesdowne, thinks he has found the perfect mistress only to learn he has been outfoxed by an intelligent, beautiful, country girl. He could become a laughingstock of the society that has always held him in high regard. Frustrated beyond belief, he devises all kinds of plans--none workable until he confides in his happily married sister who helps him to get over himself and his wounded pride so he can pursue what he truly wants in life.

Olivia Ritch engages the senses--taste, sound, sight, feel, and smell. Whether at the testosterone-charged races or at the country home of Adriana, the reader is bombarded with sensual stimuli that excites and satisfies. Good reading!

4.0 out of 5 stars Whimsical Historical Read March 3, 2012
Adriana Lizonby is out in society but, thanks to the efforts of her aunt who has her in the most appalling gowns and hair styles, she is unable to find a suitor even with her large dowry dangling as an enticement. Deciding that she has had enough of being a spectacle, Adriana ventures on her own to secure a new modeste and hairstyle in hopes to be noticed.

Adriana gets what she wishes for when Jason Hume, fourth Earl of Coldesdowne, becomes enchanted by her new found beauty but he believes she is a mistress and sets out to make her his.

Delightful short story with a feisty heiress who speaks her heart and lives life at it's fullest, and a bored Jason who finds that Adriana has found his way into his drab life. I thought the story was humorous and enchanting, the misunderstanding makes way into an engaging tale

1.0 out of 5 stars Ridiculous May 17, 2014

There is no way these two could learn enough about each other in the short amount of time given & know they'd want to marry. Seriously, just no. How could she be "so intelligent" and not realize she was damaging her character by being alone with a gentleman for the day. The excuse that she was a farm girl doesn't fit b/c being country bred doesn't make you stupid, and the point was made of her intelligence. Naive, sure, but it was stupidity not naive te that sent her on her own with him. Was a waste of time and money for this story and I would not recommend it.
