Book Description

Haley Martin is no stranger to loss. One tragic event takes her entire family, leaving lingering nightmares to torment her at every turn. She decides the only way to let go of those nightmares is to literally move away from all that is familiar. Boarding a Greyhound bus, she leaves behind her past filled with heartbreak and misery, in hopes of starting a new life.

By accident she meets Kyler King, a beautiful young man with a tragic past as well. He has no interest in settling down with anyone. With a reputation as being emotionally unattainable, he uses this façade to hide the burdens he bears every day.

As Kyler and Haley’s physical attraction becomes deeper, the secrets they have kept hidden threaten to surface. An unannounced visitor causes their pasts to collide with their present. Will their secrets prove to be too big of an obstacle, hindering their happily ever after, or will letting go be the key that locks their bond forever?

Warning: This book is intended for readers 17+ due to explicit language and sexual encounters.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"The Upside of Letting Go is a story of love, redemption, sadness, forgiveness, and mainly about finding oneself. It is a beautifully written book that flows perfectly which made it hard for me to believe that this was Stayton's first piece of work." -Tiffany Talks Books

"If you liked Thoughtless and The Edge of Never (two of my favorite reads), I have no doubt that you will like this book too!" - Literati Literature Lovers

"I was instantly sucked in by this book from the minute that it started... I couldn't put the thing down it was hard to go to sleep knowing that there was more to read. Kyler truly is a prince. Despite his past and his faults I was smitten with him from the very beginning of this book." - Wolfel's World of Books

"The Upside of Letting Go, is a fantastic book. You will laugh, you will cry (a lot!), and you will see that no matter what we go through in life, no matter how hard it may seem at the time, that we can get through it." - Angela's Smexy Book Reviews

"I love a book that doesn't leave with you unanswered questions and a cliff hanger and this book summed it up beautifully."- Seductive Romance Reviews

4.0 out of 5 stars No Cliffhanger!!! April 22, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
**ARC provided by author for an honest review**

First thing I have to say is, this book has no cliffhanger. You get an ending that wraps the story up very nicely. I know those are kinda hard to come by these days, so I just wanted to throw that out there right away!

When Haley steps foot in Alabama, she believes she has left her past behind and has a chance to start over. In a new place where no one knows her or about her tragic past, she sets out to make new friends and move on with her life. But those she left behind are never really far from her thoughts.

Then she meets Kyler. The attraction between them is instant and hot.

"This won't be sweet Hale, as much as I want to take my time and enjoy you. I need you now."

But there is more to their connection then either of them first realize. They both have had tragedies in their past that have left them feeling lost and alone. It is through that bond, that they slowly form a relationship. It is one that begins as a "friends with benefits" sort of thing, but quickly leads to more.

These two seem to be prone to tragic events though. There are quite a few things that happen throughout the book that are heartbreaking. And each one adds another hurdle they have to cross in their relationship But it is their love for one another that pulls them through each obstacle that is placed in front of them.

The Upside of Letting Go is sweet and heartbreaking all at the same time. So, if you are looking for a book that gives you a broken couple finding their way through life, then this is just the one for you. Did I mention there is no cliffhanger?!?!

If you liked Thoughtless and The Edge of Never (two of my favorite reads), I have no doubt that you will like this book too!

The Upside of Letting Go is one of those books which truly exceeded my expectations more than I could have ever imagined. The book, deemed to be New Adult, had a cover photo of a young man pushing young woman on a swing, and it just didn't draw me in or "intrigue" me. However, from the time this book originally showed up on Goodreads, the cover photo has since been updated.

After reading the book, I still don't feel that the cover does the book justice, but I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to read this book. Otherwise, I think, NO, I KNOW, I would have easily overlooked it and would have missed a well-written storyline with relatable and developed characters who took me on one heck of a ride filled with a mix of emotions.

With a duffel bag hung over her shoulder, Haley Martin boarded a Greyhound bus in New Jersey, leaving behind a past filled with heartbreak and misery, in hopes of starting a new life in a new college town over 500 miles away. It is in Alabama where she meets Kyler King, a beautiful young man with a tragic past as well, who has no interest in settling down with anyone.

"I'm standing face to face with the blue-eyed God from the admin office I saw earlier today. Once again I'm speechless. Our eyes lock, and I feel something I haven't felt in a very long time: lust."

Haley and Kyler start spending more and more time together since their respective roommates are dating. But they reach a mutual agreement that they are just going to be friends with some occasional benefits.

I fell in love with Kyler by the end of his first breath. Haley has been damaged emotionally and escapes her past and her childhood friend, Jude, by moving far away. Hoping to build a new life, she never expected to fall in love. But, Kyler walks into her life and BAM! all her previous plans are out the window. You will absolutely love Kyler. But, be prepared, you will need a few tissues along the way. Nothing about Haley's life is easy, and her love with Kyler is a prime example. Watch her on her journey as she navigates love, loss, heartache, and friendship. You will LOVE every minute of it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Reads like a Country Music Video! July 31, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was one of the best reads I've had in a long time. Usually, I read YA books, so the Upside of Letting Go was a bit of a change for me. I'd seen her book on a friend's Facebook page, and I had to see who this Nacole Stayton was and what all the hype was.

Boy, there was a reason there was hype. I don't know how she did it, but Nacole Stayton expertly created a tragic story, woven with small moments of light that make everything a little bit more bearable. So many horrible things have happened to this poor girl. But leave it to a delectably gorgeous man with a broken past to help her overcome the trials of her past and finally learn to smooth out her crumpled heart and change from a rebellious broken girl to a confident, secure, happy adult.

All of that dramatic stuff aside I have to say I really enjoyed the lighthearted moments of this book as well. The setting was phenomenal. Nacole did such an awesome job describing it! I felt like I was sucked into a country music video.

It was a delightful read, and I highly recommend it! Just be aware there are a few graphic scenes so, I don't really recommend it for teens.

Decent read. It seems like the character developments and story line was a bit too rushed in some areas and lacked depth. Lots of loss in this book. Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good
I enjoyed this story very much. As a nurse a few things bothered me being more unrealistic. But it was a good, sad story. And I agree sometimes people just need to cry..
