I absolutely love waking up to it - almost every single day (before switching off to NPR later on of course ;p )

It starts with soft echoes of an almost ethereal flute and builds into a joyous colorful crescendo - but its not too much for early mornings. (methinks because Bhopali is a mid-night raga?) I play this randomly and it takes me to serene, calm and beautiful places. This makes a great valuable gift for friends of every color! The only confusion I have is that my CD bought from India is in a single volume. So don't know why they split it up in the version sold here. As far as I know there is no Vol.2

Hariprasad Chaurasia and Pandit Shivkumar Sharma are my all time favorites. I listed to Hariprasad Chaurasia for the first time more than 20 years back on my walkman and the music stilled my mind almost magically. Very relaxing. However you do need stereo headphones to enjoy them best - or at least stereo speakers. Else if you use the built in speakers in iPod or laptop, the music will sound metallic and you miss the true beauty. Also, the sound at times is too soft and it doesn't play well in car stereo - but then with all the traffic noise around, perhaps I am asking for the moon.

In any case my only grievance is that Amazon doesn't have the entire collection of Hariprasad's music and you can only find a small selection.

If your first exposure to P. Hariprasad was from Shakti and his bansuri playing moves you, then look no further. This is an exquisite collaboration between Hariprasad and the renowned santour player P. Shivkumar Sharma. The santour is a hammered dulcimer that sounds like something between a harp and the steel drums but played here in the Hindustani style. It complements the bansuri very nicely. This music is moving, spiritual, meditative, and just simply gorgeous.

Of my collection of almost 100 Indian classical music CD's... this one stands head and shoulders above the rest! Masterful playing on the bansuri (wooden flute) and santoor (like a hammer dulcimer). If you need to de-stress after a tough day at the office... look no further. Two masters of the genre at their peak. It just doesn't get any better than this. Sublime.
