The Best Music of Mystic Falls
on October 14, 2010
The best thing about "The Vampire Diaries" is that every aspect is incredible. The acting is fantastic, the writing witty, the stories absorbing - and the music amazing. Every week has one song or more that defines a scene in the show, and this soundtrack brings many of those moments. For example, "Bloodstream" recalls a moment from the season one finale that was one of the most talked about moments of the show, while "Sleep Alone" instantly brings back one of the most suspenseful parts of the seventh episode. But the best part is how varied the tracks are. "We Radiate" has a disco-like sound to it, while Placebo's cover of Kate Bush's song "Running Up That Hill" is more indie rock, and the original score pieces by Michael Suby are haunting and beautiful.
What makes this soundtrack stand out, in my humble opinion, is how true it is to the tone of the series. Every track has the sound and texture of a "TVD" moment, and this album is an excellent addition to the show. But you don't have to be a show watcher to enjoy the songs (although for anyone interested, "The Vampire Diaries" is highly recommended quality TV). Don't let the cover art fool you - this CD stands on its own.
