More About the Author

I am the woman behind Vegan-Nutritionista.com, my beloved website and the place into which I pour my passion for the vegan diet and lifestyle.

Like most people, I wasn't raised a vegan. In fact, my parents fully believed that vitamin D, full fat milk, was the most important staple in our diet and I remember telling our pediatrician that I drank eight glasses a day. We had fruit for dessert and ate plenty of vegetables, but we also ate fish, chicken, pork, beef, and plenty of cheese and eggs. I was proud of my diet, and my parents did what they thought was best, so I'm sure they were proud as well.

But, I also loved animals from the start, so when I was 12-years-old I decided I would no longer eat animals. I was a stubborn child (and since converted to a stubborn adult), so I just didn't eat meat again. That was that. But what I didn't do was research any particular reason for not eating meat. I went about my life for the next 12 years, until one day as an "adult" I decided I needed to give a better answer for why I didn't eat meat.

I read one book, which led to another, and another and another...

And here I am now, years later, a happy, healthy vegan who loves to eat and loves to share veganism with the world.

I highly recommend this book! The recipes were easy and delicious! I couldn't believe how easy bread making could be. I made a few of these and every single one was a hit with the family. Nothing beats the smell of fresh bread baking in the oven. The croissants came out so flaky and tender. Great with a little butter or jam! The cinnamon raisin bread was out of this world! Very good right out of the oven or toasted! Froze well too! It was nice to have a loaf for the holidays! I made the whole wheat baguettes and sandwich bread. Both wonderful breads that had great texture, not hard and held up well to toppings or with fillings. I just can't express how great this book is! I really liked the variety of recipes plus the hints and information Cathleen gave on techniques of bread making. You can substitute different flours too! Great book!

I bought this, because my son is allergic to eggs and dairy. It's been hard to replace his favorite breads. He doesn't like any of the store-bought vegan breads we've tried so far. So, even though I normally don't like to knead and get my fingers dirty, I bought this book and tried some of the recipes.

I needn't have worried about getting my hands dirty, because most of the recipes have instructions for a stand mixer as well. So far, I've made the cinnamon rolls, ciabatta, and sandwich bread. I even tried the sweet potato challah just because I wanted to braid bread. Everything has come out good so far! The instructions are detailed and measurements spot on.

Some of the recipes do call for Ener-g egg replacer, which I have no problem with. Some vegans prefer not to use it, though, that's why I'm mentioning it here.

If you're looking for fool-proof vegan bread recipes, this is probably the only cookbook you'll need. It even has a recipe for gluten-free quina millet oatmeal bread. (However, if you're like me, you'll still want to have all the vegan cookbooks out there)

I haven't made anything from the book yet. I think I'm hesitant because I'm not sure if the recipes will really work. Only way to find out is to start trying some.
