Truly, my favorite album of its vein, from the incredibly beautiful and sad "Peggy Gordon" (lovers of "I once loved a lass" will adore this one) "Colier Laddie" and "Kiss the children" wonderful tunes of lads and lassies gone work the mines and mills (I come from many poor Pensylvania coliers, working the dusky diamonds for the company store, so this is potent stuff!) I highly reccommend it to anyone intereted in some great Scottish music.

this is a mix of beautiful, authentic Scottish tunes by two of the greatest musicians i've ever heard. if you like the corries and; well, scotch or irish music in general, you might also try 'Planxty', 'Old Blind Dogs', 'the Cottars', 'the Fureys', 'Rankin Family', 'Mary Bergin' or the 'the Chieftains'. -the old blind dogs are scottish folk, all the others play mostly irish-folk tunes, but i still recommend listening to them if you are into scottish-folk ('Planxty' is a definite must)

These two are often humorous and I love their choice of songs. The accent does not get in the way for the most part. Since I like songs with story content I look them up on line, which I have found very easy to do, and enjoy them all the more for knowing the situations that originally caused them to be written and sung. I'm learning a bit about history and the 'loony ' British! Folk songs are often my favorite for the stories of real peoples lives, whether specific or generic.

We originally bought this tape about 15 years ago in Scotland at a museum store in Loch Ness and played it in our rental car as we drove through the Highlands, so it's pretty sentimental to begin with. Lost the tape and don't have a tape deck anymore anyway. We had a Robbie Burns party coming up and needed some Scottish music. This is just a wonderful collection of Scottish fight songs, ballads and some that are just bawdy/funny.

A wonderful album.
