Book Description

May 28, 2006 Vogue Knitting Stitchionary Series (Book 2)

The second in a trio of essential Stitchionaries from the experts at Vogue® Knitting—a knitter’s most trusted source of information.

No other book on the subject offers material that’s as rich or as comprehensive as this! Vogue® Knitting’s second superlative Stitchionary presents an expansive collection of cable stitches culled from the magazine’s unmatched archives. Perfect for inspiring the design process and enhancing garments, it's the ultimate “swatch bonanza” for crazed knitters obsessed with trying new stitches. The options range from simple to expert level, so everyone can find something appropriate.  And all the stitches—Allover, Braid, Combo, Diamond, and Pretzel—are organized thematically and shown in large, close-up images. With its clear, concise instructions, charts, and superb photos of more than 200 pattern stitches, this will become an indispensable reference in every knitter’s library.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful but... January 9, 2007
Format:Hardcover
beautiful book, the swatches look good enough to eat. just one problem [ with this volume and the other two in the series]: NO INDEX!!!! not even a list of the patterns by name. just very broad chapter headings. if the publishers had added a dozen pages to the front of the books, with thumbnails of the swatches, life would be so much easier. After I've drooled over it thoroughly once, I might just want to go right to that cable that looked like little ripples, but not want to have to go through every page to find it.[oh, and they seem to have forgotten the swatch for #186: Sleeping Beauty: my book has a large blank spot on the page].

5.0 out of 5 stars Like this book January 18, 2007
Format:Hardcover
Vogue did a little better than vol 1, this book does have charts. The book is well organized. I also like that each chart or pattern having abbreviations, has the instructions for those stitch abbreviations on the same page as the swatch. (Unlike Knitters Magazine and their books which generally have these at the back of the book in the glossary section.)

All three volumes in this series could be improved with the addition of a index with thumbnail pictures.

Overall, I'm happy with this as a reference.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful but not as thorough as Barbara Walker December 29, 2007
Format:Hardcover
The series of Vogue Stitch Libraries are by no means intended to be as complete as Barbara Walkers or probably even the ORIGINAL Harmony guides. However, their production values are SOOOOOOO much better that I find myself going to these in order to get a better view and more inspiration than the Walker or Harmony guides. If you can only afford one set of stitch dictionaries, these probably wouldn't be it. However, if you are a stitch pattern junky like me, these are definitely a good set to add to your collection.

This book is a really nice source of patterns. The photography is well done. It goes perfectly with Voque Knittings Craftsy class on designing your own cabled sweater.

Love the cables. The instructions start easy to go to very hard. Wonderful pictures of what the finished product will look like.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not comprehensive, but useful
I know this series inspires strong reactions in people; definitely a "love it" or "hate it" kind of thing. My expectations for Volume Two: Cables was realistic, I think. Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars love the choice
I love the fact that this book has both written pattern and chart. I am not much of a chart person but to have the option is great, now I do not have to write it out.
