It's Harlan Ellison reading Harlan Ellison, so if you're a fan, you can't go wrong. There's even special guest Robert Bloch reading one of his stories! Amazing, and fun and great. For every fan who loves hearing Harlan read his work, this is a nice find (unless you can find these stories somewhere else).

For first timers to Harlan, avoid this collection.

This "library edition" doesn't list what's being read on each disk. Since it's a 5 disk set, there's a lot of content. The back cover lists everything, but doesn't break it down by disk, and each disk has over 20 tracks! If you want to know specifically what story is on what disk, you have to listen through it first, know what you're listening to, and write a list.

Ellison fans who know these stories will really enjoy. Harlan's inflections and intonations add life to the stories. First-timers will find having to figure out what they're listening to, tedious and annoying.

A great collection of stories, but a horrible compilation.

A decent collection of stories by Ellison. Most of them are pretty good, taken as pure entertainment, though the ones in which he tries to make some kind of point are typically pretty bad thematically. But Ellison's narration of his own work is really fantastic. A special treat is Robert Bloch's reading of his story "A Toy for Juliette" from the Ellison-edited Dangerous Visions sci-fi anthology, included here as context for Ellison's story "The Prowler in the City at the Edge of the World" which is a direct sequel to Bloch's. Three and a half stars.
