There is a reason this box does not show the artwork of the cards.... Almost every card in the box is the same. This is hands down the most generic game I have ever played. It is a straight up money grab using The Walking Dead License. The 6 "Hero" cards all have the same wording. I guess I was expecting something like the DC deck building game. There is no strategy at least 75 of the card all have the same pictures of the same walker..... WHY the pictures don't mean anything... They should have over 100 different walker pictures. It is very simple to learn to play. But just really not what I was hoping for.

The game play itself had nothing to do with the show. They are playing cards with Walking Dead pictures and only a few pictures at that.

I absolutely love The Walking Dead so I bought this card game as I also love playing games. Would NOT recommend this game to anyone. The directions are VERY hard to understand so we had to kind of make it up as we went. Very disappointed in this game.

This review is from: The Walking Dead Card Game (Toy)
The Walking Dead Card Game – Solitaire
By using the existing cards from the card game “The Walking Dead” you can create a solitaire experience with more drama and suspense than the original card game.
STORY
You are a lone survivor of the apocalypse stuck in the safe house, surrounded by Zombies and waiting for your two friends to show up. You need to survive through the night destroying ever zombie that attacks your safe house while also trying to rescue your two friends in the process.

VICTORY CONDITIONS
If you make through the night with one or two of your friends safely secure in the safe house, YOU WIN! If you are the only survivor you gain a partially win but if you are all eaten by zombies YOU LOSE!

COMPONENTS
[104] Zombie cards
[3] Hero cards

Each game turn consists of the following 5 phases:
1. DRAW PHASE
2. ZOMBIE SPAWN PHASE
3. HERO SHOOT AND/OR SURVIVOR MOVE PHASE
4. ZOMBIE MOVEMENT PHASE
5. DISCARD PHASE

SETUP:
1. Randomly choose your character “HERO” card and place him/her in the middle of the table; this will represent your HERO waiting in the SAFE HOUSE.
2. Take out the following zombie cards from the deck: 100, 101, 102, 103, and 104 and place them in front of you, these will be use later in the setup!
3. Shuffle the remaining 99 Zombie cards into one deck.
4. Deal out 42 cards into a single deck; this will be your AMMO SUPPLY deck.
5. Of the remaining 57 zombie cards, MIX in the other two HERO cards and the five Zombie cards; 100 thru 104 back into the deck. This makes up the new ZOMBIE deck.
6. Reshuffle the ZOMBIE deck and divide it into four even ZOMBIE SPAWN decks of 16 cards each.
7. Place the four ZOMBIE SPAWN decks in a cross formation around your HERO card leaving a THREE card space PATH around your HERO. “See example below”

8. The game is now ready to play!!

DRAW PHASE
Draw [4] cards from your AMMO SUPPLY deck and place them in your hand. If you have less than four cards in your hand draw till you have the max of 4 cards in your hand to complete the draw phase. If the deck runs out just reshuffle the discard pile to create a new AMMO deck.

ZOMBIE SPAWN PHASE
Turn over the top card in each of the four ZOMBIE SPAWN decks and place them on top of their corresponding decks, this is the zombie spawn area which you can’t attack because it is out of range.
If you draw one the follow:
1. A HERO “SURVIVOR” CARD – This is one of your survivor friends that you need to rescue and help get back to the safe house. To get the survivor to the safe house you must clear a path for the survivor to follow straight to the house. If the 3 card space between your HERO and the survivor has any zombies in it the survivor is not allowed to move into the path until it is clear of ALL zombies. If the path is clear the survivor can move during the movement phase a total of 2 spaces per turn. If one or more zombie’s moves on top of a survivor and are left there past the next SHOOT phase the survivor is killed and removed from the game. You CAN shoot at zombies in the same space as a survivor. Survivors can’t move if a zombie is in the same space as them. As long as the survivor is standing on the Zombie Spawn deck, no new zombies will spawn!! Immediately after the survivor leaves the zombie spawn deck, turn over a new zombie on the spawn deck.

2. ZOMBIE CARDS 100, 101, 102, 103, or 104 – These are special zombies who have somehow broken into the safe house! If one of these zombie cards is turned over on the zombie spawn deck they are immediately moved directly on top of your HERO card in the safe house; turn over another zombie card on the spawn deck to replace this zombie card. These special zombies must be attacked and destroyed first before any other zombie on the table. If any zombies on the safe house are allowed to stay there past the next shoot phase, YOU LOSE! If there is one “SURVIVOR” already in the safe house with your HERO card you have two turns to destroy the zombie! If there are two “SURVIVORS” already in the safe house with your HERO card you now have three turns to destroy the zombie! It’s possible for more than one zombie to break into the safe house at one time and be attack by multiple zombies.

HERO SHOOT AND/OR SURVIVOR MOVE PHASE
SHOOTING ZOMBIES
If any zombies are on any of the PATHS, your HERO can shoot and destroy them. If the zombie is still on the zombie spawn deck they are out of range and can’t be shot.
To shoot a zombie you must have the correct number of rounds equal to or greater than the number of rounds on the zombie card.
Any zombies that have broken into the safe house must be destroyed first before any other zombies on the paths!!
You can use different combinations of round to destroy zombies as shown below:
Example:
1 round ammo card can destroy a 1 round Zombie card
2 round ammo card can destroy a 1 or 2 round Zombie card
3 round ammo card can destroy a 1, 2 or 3 round Zombie card
5 round ammo card can destroy a 1, 2, 3 or 5 round Zombie card

And a 7 round ammo card can be used to destroy one of the 5 or 7 round Zombie cards OR two of the 1, 2, or 3 round zombie cards!!!
If no zombies are on the path your HERO has nothing to shot at this turn and the SHOOT part of the phase is skipped.

MOVING SURVIVORS
If a survivor is on the zombie spawn area and no zombies are on the path between the survivor and your HERO, the survivor can move 2 spaces toward the safe house during his/her part of the movement phase.
If any zombies are in the safe house no survivors on any path can move and enter the safe house until all zombies in the safe house are destroyed!!
Survivors can only move 2 spaces at a time so it will take a survivor 2 turns to reach the safe house.
Survivors can only move toward the safe house when the path is clear and no zombies occupy the path in between the survivor and the HERO.
If there is a zombie in the path it will automatically move toward the survivor on the zombie move phase instead of toward the HERO. If it reaches the survivor and stays there past the next shoot phase, the survivor is dead and removed from the game.

ZOMBIE MOVEMENT PHASE
During the zombie movement phase ALL zombies on the table “except for zombie in the safe house” move one space either toward the safe house or toward survivors if they are on the same path that can reach a survivor; this includes the zombies on the spawn deck.
If a zombie is on the same path that has either a survivor or one that is on the spawn deck, it will always move toward the survivor instead of the safe house. The zombie will continue to move toward the survivor until it moves on top of the survivor and then stops! Once a zombie is on top of a survivor, that survivor can’t move until it is destroyed!
When any zombies move on top of the safe house, they must be destroyed first before any other zombies on the paths!
Zombies that have moved on top of a survivor must be destroyed next but only after all zombies have been destroyed on the safe house!!

DISCARD PHASE
During the discard phase you can discard up to your entire hand or discard nothing if you like; it is your choice which ammo cards to keep in your hand through to the next turn.

WHEN A ZOMBIE ATTACKS THE SAFE HOUSE
Whenever any zombies break into or move on top of the safe house, you are immediately attack by those zombies. If your HERO is the only individual in the safe house at the time of the attack you have until the next SHOOT phase to destroy those zombies or you lose the game!
If one survivor is in the safe house with your HERO you now have until the following shoot phase “two turns” to destroy those zombies but if you are not able to destroy those zombie within the shoot phase of the first turn you lose the survivor and he/she is removed from the game.
If two survivors are in the safe house with your HERO you now have until the following shoot phase “three turns” to destroy those zombies but if you are not able to destroy those zombie within the shoot phase of the first or second turn you lose a survivor each turn and he/she is removed from the game.

WHEN A SURVIVOR REACHES THE SAFE HOUSE
Once one or more survivors safely reach the safe house you get to increase your AMMO draw by one extra ammo card each turn. Your hand size now becomes 5 AMMO card per turn. If you ever lose one or more of the survivors, you lose that extra AMMO card draw for the remainder of the game and your AMMO hand now returns back to four cards.
TO WIN THE GAME
To win the game you must safely rescue and protect both survivors until ALL zombies have been destroyed! If you lose ONE survivor you only earn a partial win and if you lose both survivors you LOSE THE GAME!

VARIATIONS
If you want to make the game more challenging added the following changes:
1. Add FOUR survivors to the deck instead of two and to win the game you must rescue and protect ALL FOUR SURVIVORS until all zombies are destroyed!
2. Change the SHOOT parameters to the following conditions:
a. You can only kill zombies with the same zombie rounds card; no combinations!
I.e. 1 round ammo card only destroys a 1 round zombie card and 2 round ammo card only destroys a 2 round zombie card, etc…
3. Survivors can only move ONE SPACE instead of two during their movement phase!
4. If any zombies move on top of a survivor that survivor is now instantly kill instead of getting a turn to try and destroy the zombie!
5. Or make up your own!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Bait and Switch, October 28, 2013

This review is from: The Walking Dead Card Game (Toy)
Nothing to do with Zombies in the game's spirit. It is a "numbers" game that uses bullets collected as a gauge for winning and losing. The zombie cards(virtually all the same mix of 3 or 4 pictures) are nothing more than pictures with numbers attached and the hero cards are like a wild card in other games. No story or walking dead related play or results. Kinda feel cheated. Especially at $15.00 dollar price tag.
