The Biggest Zombie Franchise the World Has Seen. Telltale's The Walking Dead is set in the same world as Robert Kirkman's award-winning comic book series. This Game of the Year collection includes all five episodes of Season One of The Walking Dead and includes '400 Days', a special episode that was previously available only as downloadable content. Telltale's The Walking Dead is made up of five episodes that each won numerous high-score accolades and editor's choice awards. Together, as one season, they won over 90 Game of the Year Awards from around the world, plus prestigious BAFTA Awards, proving that a zombie game didn't need to be all about guns, and that gamers would respond fanatically to a deeply emotional story that would leave them craving more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Game December 10, 2013
Platform for Display:Xbox 360
Now, that's out of the way, let's review the actual product.

I have been gaming for a long time. Zombies were never really my thing. Then I tried this demo on the Xbox Live Marketplace one day. I thought, hmm this game is pretty good. So I picked it up one day. Plainly, this game is awesome. It's not exciting in the game play sense, due to it being a "point and click" game, but the story is one that gives you a surprising bit of freedom and tells a phenomenal tale. The Game of the Year edition includes all 5 main story episodes, each lasting 2-3 hours, plus the "Special Episode-400 Days", which follows the stories of 5 post-apocalyptic survivors in miniature 20-30 minute stories, lasting about 2 hours in total. You can easily replay the game, and the 400 Days episode for the multiple story arcs. Beware, the main game generally has the same major ending, but numerous ways of getting there. This game is one of the few games I have given a perfect rating to on this generation of video games. All because of the story.

With Xbox 360 Hard Drive-10/10
Without one, just don't buy the game without a hard drive.
Indeed, severe lagging issues with users with 4GB core Xbox 360s will be present, but if you have any size hard drive it should run fine. But if you have to buy a hard drive for your 360, do it. This game, is well worth your time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Fun Game! Unbelieveable ending!! April 1, 2014
Platform for Display:Xbox 360
I received this game from my kids at Christmas. I had already played the Episode 1 download on my iPhone, and was pleased to see this deluxe game of the year version had the extra content episodes. I have finally gotten an opportunity to play the game and so far I love it.

I am an older gamer, and do not like a lot of these newer games where you have to act fast and press 6 or 8 different buttons at once. That garbage is for so called advanced gamers. I like a game where I can think about my moves and I only have to press one or two buttons at a time. I also prefer making decisions and thinking my moves through. This game was perfect for that.

The game is not a high resolution real life looking game where your wondering if your looking at a real human or a computer generated one. But that is a deliberate move by the developer. The game is presented similar to a comic book storyboard, only animated. Seeing that The Walking Dead is based on a comic, this fits perfectly. As in the real Walking Dead comics or TV show, your weapons are limited, and you often are separated from them and have to find something else.

Game plays follows a very loosely linear story that can change by every decision you make. Its linear in that you will always get to the same ending, but how you get there and with whom is based on your decisions. This makes for a very dynamic game style, and enhances the replay value. You play as Lee who is similar to Rick in the comic book. Soon after beginning the game you cross paths with Clementine, a sweet frightened little girl. She is basically the equivalent of Carl in the TV show. You take her under your wing and try your best to protect her and care for her. Its a lot harder then you may think. From there you progress through the story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unlike any other game I've played! January 8, 2014
Platform for Display:Xbox 360|Verified Purchase
Let me start by saying if you're into games like Left 4 Dead or Resident Evil in which you constantly have to hack, slash and shoot your way out of trouble this game may not be for you. But if you care about the narrative side of a video game you'll find yourself addicted. There still are walkers around every corner. If not biting your thumb because you're torn by the choice you have to make you'll find yourself solving puzzles or fighting the dead. This game was successful in my eyes because it was like the television show. You get a unique group of characters that go through so much and desperately try to just get through the day. Except it's not something you're watching, it's something you are doing. You make numerous choices in the game that effect the characters and story to an extent that I have not seen in a long time. Everything you do does have an outcome unlike other games I've played. There were a few graphic problems at times but that should not hold you back from the experience and fun you can have from this game. One of my favorite games of the year!

I was pleasantly surprised at how engrossing and enjoyable this game is. I had put off buying it for a long time as it was described by many as light on game play and heavy on story or just watching the action take place. While that is true, the story is so well done and involving that it makes for an exceptional experience.

The game play itself is satisfying and feels integral to the story. Much of it consists of making time-constrained dialogue choices within the social setting of the game. Those choices, often during very tense moments, have very real consequences through out the game on how it is played and how you are treated by your fellow survivors.

There are plenty of action sequences as well that will require you to take out zombies to survive. Certainly not as polished as most modern games, but it works and there is a degree of difficulty to it.

My only wish is that they had made the controller customizable. I typically like to invert the y axis which you cannot do in this game. Additionally, the right thumb stick controls the aiming and you also use your right thumb to fire by pressing the "A" button. This can result in lining up a shot/punch/kick on a zombie and taking your right thumb off the stick to press the "A" to fire only to have the zombie lurch out of the way when you moved your thumb and missing. Minor gripes, great game.
