3.0 out of 5 stars The Large & Short of it March 20, 2012
Verified Purchase
This game is basically a Flash animated choose your own adventure with very limited options. You read through the comic styled story panels and either follow the story or choose between three options. The option you choose leads to one of the characters living, getting attacked or dying. Your goal is to get as many characters out alive at the end.

Fans of the Walking Dead - and I count myself a fan - will enjoy this extremely short prequel story to the first season just because it's more Walking Dead. But other than Shane and zombies the story has little bearing on the bigger canon of Walking Dead and doesn't shed any new light on the characters.

There are a couple of misses here that need to be addressed in the next episode (if there is one). First, the choices aren't clearly connected with the results. Should you call for backup when you chase Gary or not? Not sure. And it didn't seem to matter so why make that a decision point? Second, using your finger to point at who you are shooting and where on their body you are hitting them was hit or miss due to the delay in touch sensitivity. And where did Gary come from when you are aiming at [ ]? That was a cheap death.

Finally, the game is huge by itself and requires WiFi but you also need to have Adobe Air, which is another large download. Based on the graphics and lack of complication in the program this is too much to install.

I enjoyed the 10 minute diversion after the 10 minute WiFi and Adobe Air downloads. Just not enough to rate higher than 3 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice interactive comic March 19, 2012
Verified Purchase
This is a nice interactive comic based on the Walking Dead Graphic Novel, and a decent, if not entirely accurate lead in to the TV series on AMC. Way too short for my taste, not enough of a story for me, no real replay value and not enough background to add to the series, my suggestion is to read the Graphic Novel then watch the series, they follow the same basic plot but with some interesting differences.

This is a fun little storyboard for fans of the show, but really not worth doing more than once and it is over after five to eight minutes.

3.0 out of 5 stars Wanted to like February 18, 2013
Verified Purchase
I wanted to like this game, but I couldn't get past the idea of arbitrary right and wrong choices.

The grading system took away from the feel of the game. When you have go guess from a list of options and you are told you guessed wrong even though you ended up okay, it rapidly changes the feel of surviving a zombie attack into mastering a video game. If I am still alive I win in my mind. It was fun until I went through and I was doing fine, but the I was told I messed up for telling grandma for going left instead of right.

I want to be trying to survive the zombie event, not trying to guess what choice the game wants me to make.

It also misses the core idea of The Walking Dead. That being the murkyness that surrounds the ideas of right and wrong when soceity crumbles.
Given that idea, the clearly being told you lose because you guessed wrong of what the game wanted you to say is really annoying.

The production was neat though.

It's ok. What you do get to play in it is fun if you are a fan of the show or graphic novels, but it only lets you get so far and the scenarios are SO limited.
