Editorial Reviews

Praise for The War on Success

“This powerful, fast-moving book will inform and infuriate you, opening your eyes to the danger of unrestrained government growth.”
—Brian Tracy, author of The 100 Absolutely Unbreakable Laws of Business Success

“Today, people are starved for a positive perspective about success and the American Dream. The War on Success is not only that message, it is the truth. If you are not inspired to action by Tommy’s words, you have already surrendered to the enemies of success. I have not surrendered.”
—Herman Cain, host of The New Herman Cain Show

From the Inside Flap

Higher Taxes…Nationalized Industries…Suffocating Regulation…

President Obama Has Declared War Against You

Have you worked hard and moved up in life? Did you sacrifice time and money to better yourself? Did you take risks in order to increase your career opportunities? If the answer is yes, then President Obama is sending you a message: you are what’s wrong with America.

In The War on Success, New York Times bestselling author Tommy Newberry argues that the Obama administration is not only attacking entrepreneurs and small business owners, it’s launched a fundamental assault on the very concept of success. By denigrating all the qualities that make success possible—self-reliance, ambition, hard work, the pursuit of excellence—the administration is setting the stage for Big Government to step in and “guarantee” everyone’s success through socialist-style redistribution. In this passionate book, Newberry explains:

How the Obama administration deliberately spreads envy, mediocrity, and a victim mentality among the American people
How Obama’s policies violate the fundamental values held by America’s founders
Why free markets could soon be a thing of the past
Why capitalism is compatible with the Bible—and socialism isn’t
How you can help yourself and your country and defeat the War on Success

Brash, direct, and unafraid, The War on Success tells you what’s at stake: nothing less than the survival of the American Dream.

The War on Success is an exceptional read for several reasons. First, it is all about the principles that have made America the greatest nation ever. The second chapter outlines America's greatness, including its character, its personality, its free-market, and its generosity. No apologies from Newberry in this chapter. It also lays out ten steps for weakening our nation. While these steps are very funny, they are also very scary because most are already in the process of becoming a reality.

Next, the book is exceptional because Newberry emphasizes the principles that produce individual success and demonstrates how those individual principles fit with the Founder's principles for our country. When you read this book, you recapture the vision the Founders must certainly have had for nurturing a virtuous citizenry. The book is also exceptional because the author does not minimize the role of God and faith in the heritage and culture of our nation. Newberry neither exaggerates this role nor does he down play it. He just bluntly tells it like it is as is his style throughout the book. The chapter entitled "God is Not a Socialist" is the most powerful part of the book because it connects the Biblical principles to free market principles and the development of individual character. It is worth buying the book just for this chapter!

The book is also exceptional because it paints a clear contrast between the collectivist mindset of the Obama administration and the individualist mindset of our Founding Fathers. This is highlighted in a sidebar in the final chapter called "Let's Roll" and is much like an executive summary of the key differences between "social-progressives" and those who believe in the sanctity of individual rights granted by God.

Tommy Newberry has spent his life helping people become more successful entrepreneurs and how to best use the success their hard work has brought them. This book is his clarion call warning Americans what is put at risk by the agenda put forward by the Obama administration and the Congress led by Pelosi and Reid.

This is a positive book that focuses on the qualities that bring success and is clear about why the statist/collectivist/liberal/whateveryouwanttocallit is the enemy of your success. Newberry also discusses why it isn't just your material well being that is being put in jeopardy. He shows you how the ObamaPelosiReid agenda actually kills off the spirit and character traits that lead to the kind of prosperity and greatness America has enjoyed for more than two centuries. Let me take you on a brief tour of the book. You will find a lot more when you read it, and I hope you do. But I also hope you think of others, especially young people who might be receptive to this book's message even though they don't often hear this positive and optimistic message at school or among their peers.

The book has ten chapters with a four page introduction. The intro is an open letter to President Obama asking him to stop waging war on success.

Chapter one begins by showing you the virtues and qualities that made America prosperous, free, and so worthwhile that tens of millions of people risked their lives to become Americans and millions more want to come here each year. On pages 10 and 11 he provides a useful glossary of common words that liberals and conservatives use differently.

I expected this book to be a rant about Obama, but it wasn't. (not that he doesnt deserve a rant!) This is a very logical look at present day policies compared to past policies that didnt and still dont work! Too bad most people will only read this but do nothing! I for one, am getting involved!! Thanks for your boldness Tommy! You are a great American, a PATRIOT!

In his well written, easily understandable book, "The War On Success," Tommy Newberry shares many excellent ideas on how to defeat the war being waged by the Obama administration on success and how to achieve your goals and live your dreams. Newberry captures the intentions of the founding fathers as to how a government and it's people should operate. As did the founders of this great nation, Newberry speaks up strongly in defense of the Biblical principles, which are the bedrock that enabled this country to obtain the greatness it has achieved. When this country lost the solid foundation of Biblical principles found in the Ten Commandments and incorporated into "The Constitution," we lost our ability to make wise decisions. We need to stop distorting the Constitution to mean what we want it to say and instead, interpret it as the founders intended. We also need to realize as one chapter details that "God is Not A Socialist." Instead of entitlement, God is for hard work and giving your best to every task you undertake. Unlike socialism He doesn't reward mediocrity, pardon irresponsibility, and artificially level results and give unearned rewards.

Newberry's chapter on "Reclaiming Character, Restoring Virtue," gives a list of commendable virtues and an excellent explanation of how to establish each virtue into your life. In his chapter "The Bill of Responsibilities," he details principles worth having. Both of these sections make the book worth reading. Many good books have been written on the woes besetting our country. While they all give solutions for changing government, only a couple talk about the spiritual aspects of this crisis and what to do to morally turn the United States around.
