Want to see an entire generation of grown men act like children? Play the opening theme from 1979's "The Warriors." Barry de Vorzon's concoction of swirly synths, smattering of electric piano, and steady tempo rolling along like a subway, is a sure thing to get fists in the air, and shouts of enthusiasm.

A big part of The Warriors appeal is the soundtrack, which was reissued recently. It`s equal parts exhilarating, funky, poignant and cheesy. Just like the movie.

The cover of 60's classic "Nowhere to Run" is like Michael McDonald doing the "Hot Lunch Jam" from "Fame." The catchy salsa disco "In Havana" has 70's strings, and bizarrely enough, Chevy Chase on backing vocals. Then again, he was Steely Dan's original drummer. Just thought I'd also point out this was co-produced by a man named Artie Ripp.

"Echoes In My Mind" by Mandrill could be Sly Stone leading Earth, Wind, and Fire. This contains so much funky, nocturnal Summer spirit, you can practically smell sweat and see neon lights flashing.

Hearing guitar genius Joe Walsh's "In the City," automatically makes you think of them walking victorious but downcast on the beach into the Coney Island morning sun. This is a slightly more discofied version than the one he did with the Eagles. But it's just as melodic, affecting and still has that killer slide guitar.

"Love Is a Fire" by Genya Raven sounds like every 80's Kiss song, especially the line "Beginning to feel my temperature rise." Cheese icon Desmond Child bellows "Last of an Ancient Breed," which has that melodramatic Meat Loaf quality, even if he was probably aiming for Bruce. Although the lyric "Ride the devil's steed" is more Tenacious D than Springsteen.

A very solid rock soundtrack that holds together as a unified
whole. The album is tethered by two great highlights: Joe
Walsh's first take on "In the City" (which he later re-recorded
with the Eagles for their "Long Run album; the version here
is better) and Desmond Child's "Last of an Ancient Breed" which
is undoubtedly the best Springsteen imitation ever recorded--better
than a lot of what Springsteen himself was recording at the
same time.

This CD is amazingly awesome. I love the sound of every track on here, it just suits the tone and feel of the film, and the songs are very cool on their own. The Warriors is easily one of the greatest films of all time, and the theme is one of the best I've ever heard, it just builds into this really techno rock sound, it's awesome. A must have for any 70's enthusiast or rock fan.

This import from the classic cult gang movie is the best CD I have purchased all year.I am especially moved by track 8 the baseball furies chase and the warriors theme. I would have easily given $50 for this excellent soundtrack. It is rock music at it's pinnacle! Barry de Vorzon creates a magic no other can duplicate! Do yourself a favor and order this gem!

This is a very good soundtrack from one of the best third-show drive-in movies of all time. The music starts slowly with Joe Walsh and ends with a pulse pounding rendition of "Last of an Ancient Breed". This is a must-have from the 70's.

Just another INCOMPLETE soundtrack... Man, it's like a curse!

1 - Where's the first 1:25 seconds from the soundtrack???? They are pure magic. Why they cut off this? Why? Why? Why? Why?
2 - Where's the song for the Punks fight in the men's room?
3 - Where's the song for Stillwell Avenue arriving?

Sad...

The opening music at the beginning when the Wonder Wheel is in the dark just before the "Warriors Theme" is not on this. The scene near the end when the Wonder Wheel is in the sun is not on this. These scenes feature excellent music and neither are featured here. The songs range from cheesy to Great (The Great being Nowhere To Run and In The City and the only two pieces from the score - Warriors Theme and Baseball Furies Chase)...had the rest of the Score been included, this would be 5 stars. We need a full definitive soundtrack/score of this film...but it is is better than nothing hence the 4 stars instead of 5. Buy this for the few gems on it.

These folks do a nice job releasing extended scores of obscure films. They just began shipping and are only printing three thousand. It came to $23.98 USD total to ship.
I believe this edition can only be got thru their site, I just wanted to let the folks here who were looking for a more complete score, a heads-up that it has final arrived!
As an FYI, La-La released a limited extended score for Williams' 1941, which I decided to wait on, and am now regretting, as it is out of print.
