My step mom first told me about this movie. She said she saw it when she was a little girl and it was one of her favorites. We could never find it on video, so one day about 7 years ago, it came on television. My step mom told my brother and I to watch it. We loved it! The characters were so cute and the songs were so funny. It was almost magical. We still remember the movie well. And when our step mom found it on Amazon, we were so exicted! We can't wait to watch it with our little step brothers!

I remembered this movie from my childhood. For years faded visions of baby swimmers, whale families and great mansions stuck in the back of my mind. For a while I thought it was just a dream but recently, during a conversation with my mother I mentioned it and she remembered it as "The Water Babies". Unfortunately I have been unsucessful tracking it down in my area, However, I recently found and ordered a copy from amazon.com and are eagerly awaiting its arrival! This is a wonderful film and I would highly suggest it to anyone looking for a bit of childhood magic.

Out of the distant corners of my memory came a single catchy song: "Hicocalorum" or something like that. I remembered it was from some old movie that was part live-action and part animation. After years of searching, I've found it, and so have you.
Please note- this movie is bad. Yes, I know you thought it was awesome as a kid, but kids are easily impressed, especially back in '79 when I first saw this.
This movie is wacked. It's hard to understand what most people are saying since the English/Welsh accent is very strong. The plot is pretty convoluted - many things go unexplained and make very little sense. Watching the animated part is like being on some kind of acid trip, but without actually having to take any.
Please note, you are better off leaving this as a childhood memory, rather than buying this DVD and totally messing with your head.

I remember watching this when I was a kid back in the 80s and loved it for the blend of fantasy and adventure. This 1978 feature is a mix of live-action musical and animation, focusing on the adventures of a chimney sweep, Tom who is blamed for a crime he is innocent of. The time period is 1850s England, and although a rich girl, Ellie knows he is innocent, she is unable to help Tom clear his name. Circumstances lead Tom to fall into Dead Man's Pool, and he is assumed to be dead. However, Tom enters a remarkable and strange new world, where the Water Babies live. The antagonists here are an eel and a shark, creatures that terrorize the water babies. Tom meets the all powerful Cracken and pleads for help to prove his innocence. This request comes at a price, but will it be too high for Tom? James Mason lends his voice to this feature. The film may be a bit dated, but the magic of the story continues to beguile young viewers, and my daughter found it interesting and fun to watch.

I also remember this movie from my childhood. I have been looking for it for years and have finally found it! I can't wait for my son to see this and share in the fun. Out of all the movies I have seen as a child, this is the only one that really stands out in my memory. I loved it!

This is a movie i've been looking for since i was about 7 or 8 years old. I saw it when i was just a little boy and now i found it again, of course i had to buy it.

Since the perspective of a 8 year old and myself (30 years old) is slitghtly different, i wasn't as "great" as i remebered it to be but im still satisfied with my purchase. So to round it up, if you have kids at 5 to 7 years old, im pretty sure they would like this movie. Since it's kind of old you have to understand that the best thing about this movie is the story, not the graphic though it is alright.

I can still remember watching this movie when it first aired on HBO at a neighbor's house and thinking that it was the best thing I had ever seen. The scene where Tom jumps into dead man's pool was so tense, I still get the goosebumps watching him jump into the foaming water and technologically transforming into a clean and beautiful water baby. I was lucky enough to find a used copy at a book store years ago and my 3-year old daughter and I watch the movie about once a week! The music in this movie is also great! Hicocolorum indeed!

I used to watch this movie as a kiddo. I remember it was so neat to watch a movie that included both live actors and animation. As an adult this movie was rather bizarre. It centered on the neglect and abuse of a boy and how in the end he earned a better life by his good choices. Like Charles Dickens but with a happier ending.
