Several years ago, I set out to read about as many of the United States presidents as possible. Reading about the great leaders in America's history; leaders like George Washington, John Adams, Abraham Lincoln, and Ronald Reagan is an unforgettable experience that tends to leave a mark on each reader.

During this political season filled with failed policies and lackluster leadership, I set out to read about a few men who may one day occupy the Oval Office. The first book is written by the Vice Presidential candidate, Paul Ryan. His book, The Way Forward: Renewing the American Idea is a transparent look at the Wisconsin native and his vision for America.

Readers will be impressed with Ryan's unassuming style. He's a small town boy with big dreams for America. There's no political pretense here; just well-thought out ideas that Ryan proposes in order to rescue our country from the clutches of the Obama administration.

Several reforms are proposed by Paul Ryan. The first proposal he presents is entitlement and health-care reform. The goal here, according to Ryan is to begin by repealing Obama care, the prized jewel of social progressives. Ryan makes it clear that he intends to save social security, medicare, and medicaid. But the current policies will, in the final analysis lead to economic disaster. Ryan proposes commonsense solutions which promote competition among insurance companies and doctors which will ultimately drive down prices; not to mention put more money back into the pocketbook of Americans.

The second proposal includes an economic growth component. Ryan addresses the growing national debt crisis which is over $17 trillion and rising. He addresses the liberal proclivity to tax and spend.

I expected this to be boring. It is the first book I have read regarding politics. I enjoyed it very much. This is real hope and change. Most believe we are on the wrong track, as a country. I like Ryan's ideas and positive attitude. He had a humble upbringing, is smart, down to earth and not afraid to make the tough calls so our children have a chance.
I realize there are biased reviews here, some will never like republican ideas and the same for democratic ideas. But here I see someone who can work across the aisle, which the current administration promised and then immediately proceeded to divide our country.

I found this to be a few things: 1) An easy read 2) A great insight into a good and intelligent man 3) An eye opener regarding the 2012 election 4) A great view from the inside of our distorted political system 5) A good and positive point by point addressing, including proposed solutions, on the issues of today.
Anyone who would like to know more about Paul Ryan will not be disappointed in reading this book

One of the first reviews of Paul Ryan’s new book accused Ryan of not being sufficiently intellectual. Hmm, is that because he is too logical and candid with specific ideas? I see Ryan’s Way Forward as refreshing. He is revealing of his Midwestern upbringing and sincere appreciation of his widowed Mom’s guidence.
Ryan admits to some minor mistakes along the way in the process of his development as a bright young man with a clear understanding and respect for the foundation of our government by our founding fathers. His deep rooted ideas which evolved from his intense study of economics have formed the basis for his ideas on how to move our country on a path to growth, prosperity and equality of opportunity.
Paul Ryan has praise for both Democrats and Republicans who put forth realistic ideas and are willing to bend a little in crossing the aisle for legislation that will provide some level of progress. This book leaves me with respect for an intelligent young man, mature beyond his age, who has demonstrated leadership in taking on difficult challenges in the US House of Representatives
This book reminds me that I will never find a politician who I agree with on all the issues, but hopeful that I will find a hardworking man or woman with a goal in governing to do what is best for all America in preserving a government foundation; a foundation that has prevailed over 220 years as the best ever produced in the history of mankind.
I will continue to evaluate the proposed alternatives among those men and women, Democrats and Republicans, seeking to re-direct the path of America in the 2016 Presidential election. I look forward to reading other books that will help me in that pursuit. I have a feeling many of those who read Ryan’s book , if they actually even read it, did so with a pre-determined goal of seeking to be critical without digesting his specific ideas. I highly recommend reading this book with an open mind.

Drawing from his childhood in small-town Wisconsin, his early career working for Jack Kemp and Bill Bennett, and his time as a Congressman and Vice-Presidential candidate, Ryan articulates a clear vision for a conservatism with heart that is a breath of fresh air between the "entitlement" mentality of liberalism and the "crony" conservatism that has been pro-business but not necessarily pro-market. His priority of local community empowerment over an elitist centralized government is an argument that is clearly articulated in this thoughtful yet readable work. I would encourage anyone interested in understanding the rational argument for limited government to consider reading this well written book.
