More About the Author

NY Times and USA Today Best-selling author, CAREY CORP wrote her first book, a brilliant retelling of Star Wars, at the prodigious age of seven. Since then, her love affair of reinvention has continued to run amuck. Writing both stories for young adults and literary fiction, she begins each morning consuming copious amounts of coffee while weaving stories that capture her exhaustive imagination. She harbors a voracious passion (in no consistent order) for mohawks, Italy, musical theater, chocolate, and Jane Austen.

Her Amazon #1 best-selling books, DOON and the sequel DESTINED FOR DOON, are the first of 4 books in her latest young adult series loosely based on the concept of the musical Brigadoon, used with permission from the Alan Jay Lerner Estate & the Frederick Loewe Foundation, and co-written with Lorie Langdon. book 3, SHADES OF DOON releases 9.01.15 with the brand HarperCollins imprint BLINK. Find out more at www.doonseries.com.

Her debut novel for teens, THE HALO CHRONICLES: THE GUARDIAN, earned her national recognition as 2010 Golden Heart finalist for best young adult fiction, and more recently put her on the NY Times and USA Today best-sellers lists. She hopes to have a release date for the sequel, THE HALO CHRONICLES: THE KEEPER soon.

Carey Corp's THE WAY LIFE WAS FOREVER introduces readers to two communities that live on opposite schedules: Sun-Dwellers are active during the day and sleep at night while Moonwalkers are the inverse. Moonwalker Lyra believes that Sun-Dwellers will eat her flesh, while Sun-Dweller Perseus thinks Moonwalkers are blood-drinkers. When an accident leads to their meeting, they realize how they've misplaced their fears.

While the concept of Sun-Dwellers and Moonwalkers intrigues, their societies are not as developed as they could be. Readers are expected to pick up the rules of this world in a short amount of time. Younger readers may be charmed by the love-at-first-sight element of Lyra and Perseus's romance, but others will find it happens too quickly. A subplot concerning Lyra's missing uncle -- allegedly the victim of a Sun-Dweller -- begs to be explored but is overshadowed by the love story.

THE WAY LIFE WAS FOREVER has the potential to be expanded. Lengthening the amount of time Lyra and Perseus -- both likable characters -- spend together, as well as focusing more on the disappeared uncle subplot, would also improve the piece and add tension. For readers seeking a paranormal romance fix, this short story satisfies, but what this reviewer would like to see is for Corp to expand upon her unique concept and create a world that a broader audience can fall into.

I was really excited about this story when I read the summary and thought it was a great base idea for a novel, the idea about the two cultures. I would have liked to see it as a full length book though. It moved too fast and the romance between Lyra and Perseus was not very believable and a little hard to swallow, the way they fell in love so fast. Completely unrelated subject, but I also noticed that there a bunch of Harry potter Names: Sirius, Regulus, Arcturus. Hmmm interesting. I would loveit if the author made this longer but definitely give it a try if you enjoy fast paced quick reads and love at first sight.

Maybe a half hour to read....definitely worth it:) The story is somewhat predictable, but satisfies the reader. A somewhat cautionary tale about following protocol with blind faith. The ending is just what the reader wants!

Okay, so at the start the book captivated me, and made me really wonder about who separated and spread the myths about them, I thought it was going to be a bit of a mystery novel and that we were going to follow the two characters through-out the novel as they found out why the two 'kinds' were separated, the way they were. But then all of a sudden the novel just stops and we don't found out who or why they were made to live this way. I was very disappointed, but thnk the book could of been great if the author kept going will it. Maybe the author should edit then ending as I really could see this as an on going series! I hope this helped!! :)

This is a short story that I just didn't like very much. It was way too much like "The Scourge" and ultimately left way too many questions unanswered. Why wouldn't the characters go back and tell the others where they were? If you care about people, you don't abandon them and let them believe you were brutally murdered. Plus, I really can't stand the fairy tale, love at first sight business where people give up everything to be with this person they've known for like two and a half hours.

It was a good book. I just really wish it was longer. I know it says short story on the front but I think if Corp started the story again before the baby was due and made it longer, it would had made more money and gave us more to read :) ~Popp

B/c that's about how long it took me to read this, way too short, not even long enough to make me enjoy the story

I really liked the idea behind this story. Romance and rebellion in a dystopian universe? I'm in! However, the length didn't give the author adequate time to develop the backstory or characters. I never connected with either of the societies in the book, which was disappointing. I wish I could have learned more about their cultures, where the myths about sun dwellers and moonwalkers had come from, how and why they had been separated to begin with, etc. I also felt like the romance aspect moved too quickly. I don't mind love at first sight, but there was no development here. They went straight from meeting to kissing way too quickly, which made the romance element of this story feel two-dimensional. Overall, it was worth a look because of the short read time and interesting concept, but I would've loved to see it longer and more developed.
