Editorial Reviews

Review

"The popular psychologist, bestselling author, and radio/television personality uses humor to reveal 10 life-changing principles about God, based on the wisdom he learned from King Solomon. After an inauspicious start--Leman says his younger self was "a wise guy, a goofball, and a comedian"--the words of Proverbs 3:1-6 became his road map as he identified the choices that led to to his win-win life. Narrator Jon Gauger's amused tone is clear, and his delivery is well paced and authentic as he draws listeners into the often laugh-out-loud details of Leman's experiences. Gauger's insightful portrayal of Leman's epiphany is warmly characterized and delivered with well-timed pauses. Overall, his appealing narration engages listeners on the topics of God, purpose, and finding meaning in life."

I am a huge fan of Dr. Leman! I was excited to see that he had a new book out... and this one is very different than his others! Dr. Leman shares his heart in this book more than any other, The Way of the Wise is a quick read but it's challenging and thought provoking and VERY inspiring. I just went back and bought more copies to give as gifts. I think the dedication says it all... "This book is for all those who believe in the almighty guy 'up there,' those who aren't sure, and those, like me, who took a long while to be convinced".

This is a must read! And you might want to buy more than one! Trust me... you will want to give this book to all your friends and family!

If you want to read a life-changing book in a tight little easy-to-read package--one that even those who don't like to read will be sucked into and won't be able to put down--it's Dr. Kevin Leman's The Way of the Wise! Three friends and I read it over a weekend and met for coffee to discuss it. We all look at faith and God from varied perspectives, but in this book we found common ground and intriguing discussion. The personal Eureka for me was the "God, I'm All Yours--96 percent!" chapter, and both my friends identified with the "Jesus Ain't the Big, Bad Wolf" chapter. No matter where you are in your life journey, this wonderful book indeed provides simple truths for living well and a doable roadmap to getting there. I'll be passing it to everyone I know!

If you're already familiar with Dr. Kevin Leman, you'll love this book. If this is your introduction to his writing, you're in for a treat. Leman takes some of Scripture's "greatest hits" and weaves them together with a series of funny, warm, often inspiring stories. The result is a book that takes about 60 minutes to read, but one that could lead to life-altering changes. This book is as entertaining as it is instructive, thanks to the vignettes that pair so well with the verses Leman selects. It will cause you to ask yourself some tough questions, and to challenge the notion that life just "is the way it is." Open this book, and you'll open yourself to an opportunity for meaningful growth. I loved it.

Kevin Leman is a great Christian author. He's practical, down-to-earth and writes well.
This book is an exception and doesn't offer much.
His comments are mostly what you'd say to a new Christian.
Not much helpful time is spent on the Bible verses that each chapter is based on.
I don't recommend buying this book.

One popular question for people at different stages of their lives is to ask: "What is life all about?" That is usually about purpose. Other times, they will be asking about why they are doing certain things in life. That is a question about meaning. Still other times, they will ponder about where it all leads to, which is a question about destiny or a goal in life. Purpose helps us focus our lives. Meaning helps us understand the significance of our lives. Destiny enables us to establish hope for the future. How do all of these come into play in our present moments? This is what this book tries to do: To provide us some simple truths for living well, while on this earth. How many "simple truths?" Ten. All ten can be gleaned from Proverbs 3:1-6.

Leman shares about tumultuous early years in school that leaves him feel more like a drop-out or the odd one out of the school systems. At that time, he feels like he is of no use to God. It takes many years of trying to connect the promises of God and also to make sense of his own struggles. He summarizes them in ten principles to help readers learn from his experience so that they too can live well.

Focusing on specific words of a biblical verse, Leman tells his personal story. He begins with teachability, where he uses the word "teaching" in Proverbs 3:1 to share about his own teachable moments, and his journey to becoming a teacher later on in life. He offers thoughts about how to connect our head knowledge with our heart through the keeping of God's Word in our hearts. He talks about stress and how we respond that make or break us, and how positive response, especially in God, can prolong our years.
