You could say, it pretty much takes the guesswork out of reading weather forecasts." - Android Headlines

3.0 out of 5 stars Battery hog November 26, 2012
I have loved the Weather Channel app for several years on both my phone and my Kindle Fire. It has had some issues but they have seemed to fix those issues once they are known. The latest issue was with you not being able to get the latest info, would be old and there was no refresh button. The app now has a refresh button, and always seems to have the latest info when I open it.
However, I recently purchased a Kindle Fire HD. The first app that I installed was the Weather Channel app. After a few days, I began to notice that my Fire HD had no battery life.
I fully charged it. Went to bed and read for just a little bit. Made sure the wifi was turned off. When I woke in the morning, I only had 36% of battery left. And it was asleep all night.
So after playing with it for several days, turning this and that off, uninstalling different apps, I've come to find out that it is the Weather Channel app that is sucking the battery life out of the Fire. I have now uninstalled it and gone are the battery issues. I can go to bed at night and it loses at most 2-3% of it's battery life over night.
And I can now believe that the Fire does have an 11 hour battery life. Previously, I was getting, at most, 4 hours of use.
I gave the app 3 stars because it IS a super great app. And I'm hoping that the developers will soon look at the problem of why it is using so much battery power.
I just want an app, that when I click on it, I can find out the weather forecast for my home and a few selected cities. I don't want it to keep running when I'm not using it.

1.0 out of 5 stars From hot to cold in a snap February 25, 2013

There's no way to give the update zero or even half a star, otherwise I would. I've had this app for about a year, and it was accurate, intuitive, and hassle-free. I especially liked the temperature icon in my status bar, which would change color based on severe weather watches, warnings or advisories. The temperature was always spot-on. THE UPDATE is a billboard with a Weather Channel overlay, and the first ad I experienced was for pickup trucks, with a photo of a pickup. The overlay of the temperature, including any text - e.g. "snow" - was illegible because of the graphics underneath. No temp icon in the status bar. Navigation around the app was cumbersome. It is missing some of the programmable choices for weather notifications. Unfortunately the update could not be uninstalled to the old version, so I had to uninstall the whole thing and look for a different weather app.

1.0 out of 5 stars Jul 2013 App Update Stinks July 10, 2013
By Doug
This was a five-star app for my Kindle Fire until the July 2013 automatic update, at which point it became a one-star (because there isn't a zero-star). The previous version was beautiful. When I opened it, I saw all the current information for my location and the additional information was simple to access. Now, I get whatever full-screen picture they want to show me (Bing anyone?), some advertisements, a "points" thing, and a temperature. There is some text that might be more weather information, but it is nearly impossible to read - obscured by the new photo. To view more current data, you have to tap the temperature. (The extra tap is really unnecessary, a big step backwards!) Even then, some of the data is missing. The points thing is really unclear and they give you a big button to sign up for whatever it is, but backing out of the process is not as intuitive. I'm very disappointed. In fact, I've loaded WeatherBug and I'm also going to consider Accuweather. They had a good thing but ruined it in the name of progress.

1.0 out of 5 stars Updated version is useless! July 9, 2013
Original version of app was a daily go to for quick reference to local & world wide weather info. New updated version is NOT USER FRIENDLY! Deleting updated version without hesitation.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bring back the former version July 9, 2013
The last version was excellent. This new version has the apperance more like a silly child's game.
Please bring back the old app! I wont be using this new version, sorry.
I'm in agreement with the last several disappointed reviews.
This is NOT better.

I don't usually write harsh reviews without at least a little praise or constructive suggestions but there is no alternative here. This redesign is a sad, garbled, useless mess (as of July 9, 2013, Ver. 4.1.2x adad45d). We've used the Weather Channel app (Android version for the Kindle Fire HD) since late 2012 and found the earlier version immediately intuitive and sensible, especially the at-a-glance multi-day view. But this pointless update drove a 5 star to a 1 star literally overnight. The new interface is a non-intuitive mess that looks like something a first time app designer slapped together. We've switched to Weather Bug for now. If the Weather Channel doesn't switch back to a more intuitive, sensible app design we'll be deleting this permanently. We don't object to the ads or the points - we understand the realities of monetization for free apps. But this incredibly poor design will simply drive away your potential traffic.

And I'm not talking about tweaking it to make it better. I can't think of a single constructive suggestion to merely tweak the redesign and make it better. At the very least you might consider making the old version optional for tablet users, if the goal was to redesign the app primarily for smaller mobile devices.

Update 7/17/13: I tried the new Weather Channel app for a week alongside the Weather Bug app. The Weather Channel app is crap. I deleted it. I'm reasonably satisfied with Weather Bug, although I'd like to see the old familiar and immediately intuitive Weather Channel app return.

Does ANYONE have a link to the Former Weather Channel App?
Pie Grrrl,

I'm sorry if my comment sounded a bit presumptuous. I tend to take it for granted that people know how to do these things, but I should have realized from your post that you didn't (otherwise you probably wouldn't have been asking for the link).
But no problem, I respect people who... Read More
