I used Tom's book and program to prepare for my first triathlon. He does a really good job of breaking it all down and explaining things in terms that anybody can understand. While I do enjoy using technology, I really liked the fact that Tom doesn't get too caught up in HR zones and power meter readings in this program. He just keeps things nice and simple. We have enough to think about when we're just starting out without having to add in deciphering what our heart rate readings mean for a specific workout. I continually gained in strength and endurance throughout the program and am more than ready to crush this triathlon!

I was drawn to this book because of its straight forward and simplistic easy to follow training plans and it made Triathlon training a tangible goal for me that I could easily fit into my busy life. I followed the Olympic Distance Training Program for my first Triathlon and successfully got to the starting line injury free and confident in my ability to perform. The book covers everything you need to know about training, what to wear, helpful and important tips on gear, nutrition and hydration and more! I also really like the strength training program that I can do from my own home,I like the helpful pictures that show you how to perform the exercises properly with some added stretches also. The introduction is about the authors own first Triathlon experience which was far from perfect, and quiet funny! At the back of the book there are helpful training logs and resources related to all things Triathlon.

I have raced over 200 triathlons including 11IM, and 25 marathons and Tom Hollands books are spot on. To race well you need the right training and Tom's experiences as well as his approach is the right one for the average person as well as the elite racer. You will definatley PR by following his plans!

I have used Tom's various books for many years. I recently completed my 11th full distance tri. I can credit Tom's 12 Week book with 6 top ten AG finishes. The various workout schedules make sure you are not doing too much or too little as you approach race day. I am slowly moving my way up the podium and I was 3rd in AG earlier this month. This is due to Tom's insightful writing. Tom's book will help any athlete, whether first timer or seasoned participant, achieve their goals.

I've been a fan of Tom's ever since I started training for 5k races. I've since moved
on to marathons and have run 3 marathons in less than 6 months following Tom's plans.
I have tons of friends who use Tom's triathlete plan .... I take pointers from the
triathlete training even though I'm strictly a marathoner.

Couldn't have done it without Tom.

This is a good book in almost all respects. It provides guidance for all of the major aspects of triathlon training, but doesn't go into detail on nutrition needed during training.

I started training for triathlons with the first edition of this book almost four years ago. Tom Holland hits all of the essentials you need to know. And yes, you really can train for your first triathlon - most likely sprint distance - in 12 weeks. I'm not a small guy; I wear a 50R sport coat. I did some cycling but no running at all and only swam short distances in a pool prior to this book. I've since completed eleven triathlons of sprint and Olympic distance plus two half marathons. I now own a great many books and videos and know a heck of a lot more about triathlon, and still firmly believe Tom has all the bases covered well.

The only accessory I'd recommend with this is the Freestyle Swimming DVD from Total Immersion if you're not already a strong swimmer.

That's it. A book and a DVD plus a bike & helmet, some running shoes and maybe goggles and you're good to go!
