Anyone who has tried to lose weight by going on a new diet knows that the toughest part of the process is sticking to the plan. It's not the food itself, which can taste great if you find the right recipes.

It's the routine. Basically, whenever you take what amounts to a pleasure - which is what eating has become for us today - and you try to formalize it, something about it doesn't fit right in our head.

The same is true of forcing yourself to hit the gym three times a week. You might even like physical exercise. But the notion that you are doing it out of some duty to your body and your health introduces a degree of mental resistance.

So it doesn't matter if we begin with what seems like motivation to last months. Because pretty soon it starts to wear off.

And once it does the process grinds to a halt. We find ever more reasons NOT to follow the plan.

Of course, we don't blame ourselves. We blame the plan. Yet again.

What I like about "The Weight Loss Motivation Bible" is that it recognizes how we are fundamentally flawed in this area.

Carolyn Hansen knows that embarking on yet another promising diet or fitness plan is NOT likely to work for us if we haven't mentally prepared ourselves beforehand.

She says something to the effect of "what you put into your head is far more important than what you put into your body".

I think she is right. It is SO easy to sabotage yourself when it comes to weight loss. Often we won't even realize how patterns of thought we've picked up long ago have become obstacles to making the right decisions when it comes to eating and exercising.

You may THINK you are in control of your behaviors, but are you really?

I read this book after purchasing another book by the same author called "Best Way To Lose Weight". I found these two books together to be very powerful for helping me reach my goal weight. It's very hard to achieve a weight that you are happy with but to maintain that ideal body weight takes some discipline and motivation as the book describes.

The author makes it very easy to stay on target while explaining easy to implement solutions to hard obstacles that I encountered during my diet. I feel great at 46 years old and I'm the weight I should be. My doctor is finally happy and she asked me how I did it well I'm very proud to say it started with the the first book by Carolyn Hansen. Once you understand how the body works when it comes to weight loss it will become a lot easier to see results and trust me, when this starts happening that will really motivate you. I look forward to anything else you put out Carolyn.

I've tried several diets through the years, but I have repeatedly had the same problems with maintaining the diet. So many diet programs and books are restrictive or inconvenient that I have found them hard to stick to and starting over and over again with the same problems.

What I like about this book is that the author addresses the mind set that people need to have to be successful with a diet or program. I start diets excited but tend to see a diet as a chore after a while. After reading this book, I have a better understanding of why I have problems sticking with diets and I now have more ideas to make my next diet successful. This book is very well written and easy to understand. The author does a great job illustrating concepts and ideas to help the average person become more successful with maintaining a healthy diet.
