Review

The Well-Balanced World Changer is a breath of fresh air for leaders who need a crash course in the art of setting healthy expectations and pushing through disappointment to stay the course and finish well. This book is like a seasoned friend who has the guts to tell you what you need to hear to push forward in tough leadership territory. It provides dozens of sticky insights that will help you pace yourself so you can live out your passions and great ideas for the long haul.
Brad Lomenick, president and key visionary of Catalyst, author of The Catalyst Leader

Change is hard. Keep going. Read this book and you will be encouraged to pursue and balance your dream of changing the world. We all need this.
Jeff Shinabarger, author of More or Less, founder of Plywood People

Cunningham agains reminds me that I am not a rock star and neither are you. What a relief! Rather, we are more than enough. Together we are God's hands and feet placed exactly where He wants us for His purposes in our generation. Would-be world changers get a fresh idea of what this looks like in an ordinary yet intentional life.
Shayne Moore, activist, author of Refuse to Do Nothing and Global Soccer Mom

No one believes in your potential to change the world more than Sarah Cunningham. She's one of the most faith-filled and compassionate thought-leaders to come along in years. Yet her insights are grounded and her ideas will disrupt your long-standing beliefs. This is a must-read for anyone who dares to dream.
Ben Arment, creator of STORY and Dream Year

From the Back Cover

What happens when idealism and reality crash into each other . . . and you?

If you have ever passionately invested yourself in living your faith, championing a cause, or representing some noble ideal, you have probably experienced a face-off between idealism and reality.

When we're trying to change the world, we meet tension almost daily-between dreams and disappointment, wholeness and dysfunction, past and future. This can lead to disillusionment, frustration, and exhaustion. It brings the temptation to abandon the dreams we were chasing after, to give up on ourselves and the world.

Don't give in! This book is your survival guide. You can champion your cause and your faith, even in a broken world. Stay in the race and take this guide along as a source of fuel, rest, and encouragement along the way.

Do we really need another book about leadership? Admittedly, this was my first thought when I heard about Sarah Cunninghams new book The Well Balanced World Changer. But after sitting down and talking with Sarah and taking time to read through much of this book, I can honestly say that this may be one of the most valuable resources that I have ever come across for young adults who are passionate about changing the world. Most leadership books are written for businessmen, politicians, and pastors, but Sarah Cunninghams new book is really written from the perspective of a young adult who has a simple desire to work for the good of the world- which describes many of us the Millennial generation who are activistic and driven to make a difference in our communities, culture, and world.

The book is divided into ten sections addressing issues from Worth & Success to Desires & Frustrations, each section with a dozen of short yet wisdom packed peices of advice ranging from 2-6 pages (which again, is perfect for millennials who suffer from attention span deficit! lol) Sarah pulls wisdom from her own life and the lives of influential people in different contexts from around the world to help cause the reader to reach out and take a leap to change the world in whatever way God is stirring in their spirit. While this book is distinctly Christian (a number of references to Scripture, Christian leaders, and Jesus) it is not per-say a "Christian book". What I mean is that Sarah writes in such a way that literally anyone who were to sit down and meditate on the principles of this book can have their lives enriched and find new inspiration to press on to be a "well-balanced world changer".

Sarah Cunningham presents a great book, filled with essays on how to change the world. She turn almost every stone, when it comes to the topic of how to interpret our everyday life. There is always a positive way out. She uses numerous of examples from the Bible, and shows how relevant they are today.

I see the world with new eyes, thanks to this book.

Sarah's perspective on life is a breath of fresh air. She doesn't have to "try." Rather, she simply is. Blending metaphors from ancient Scripture and modern media, Sarah's depth is evident. Don't expect entertainment. Instead, prepare yourself for an extended look in the mirror. Sarah's words will evoke a response, and probably one you've been longing to communicate for quite some time. Get ready to know yourself in a whole new way. You never know, you might just change the world, while you're at it.

We all have dreams. We all want to make a difference in the world. But what happens if after years of hard work it just doesn't seen to be working like we imagined?

Sarah Cunningham, in this encouraging book, gives us pointers on how not to give up. She shows us that our God-given dreams are not to receive praise from people or to make us feel good about ourselves. They are given to please God and help others. Addiction to approval is not what we are called to.

Our dreams should be to please God and not people. He is the one who called us and gave us those dreams and he is the only one we should strive to please. We may not be another Billy Graham. We need to understand that the world would be worst off if it was full of famous people. If everyone was a boss, who would do the work? If everyone was a performer who would watch the show.

She shows us that God intends for us to be content whether we have achieved our goal already or not. Contentment should be in the Lord, not in our circumstances.

I enjoyed the book. It was easy to read and was interesting all the way through. It was is very encouraging and I recommend it, especially to those who feel they are tired or burned out.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

I received this book, free of charge, from Moody Publishers and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I graduated college in three years. I got married the same weekend that I graduated. I work as a missionary and spend a lot of time raising money for initiatives that I hope make an impact.

And even though I've done some pretty cool things as well as seen some amazing things happen, I didn't feel prepared to do it all in a healthy way until I read this book.

If you want to make a difference but not have your entire identity tied to your job, this was the book you needed yesterday.

Part leadership tool, part devotional, part good old fashioned reader, Sarah Cunningham's A WELL-BALANCED WORLD CHANGER equips, inspires and delights. I loved the ease at which you can get through and navigate sections--and the wisdom that each section contained.

Sarah's new book, "The Well-Balanced World Changer" inspired me with little things, and challenged me with practical advise. The book is full of wisdom Sarah Cunningham has acquired both from her exposure to the world we live in and her exposure to God's Word. The chapters are brief (great for those of us with short attention spans) but they are packed with insight that causes one to think differently about some of the most common challenges leaders face in the world today. While agreeing that dreams are essential to success in any field, the author presses her case that accomplishing the dream isn't necessarily the test of real success; and true happiness doesn't come in finally seeing the dream fulfilled, but happiness should accompany us along the journey. I highly recommend this book for both the well-seasoned and the less experienced leader.
