Book Description

Therefore the law is paralyzed, and justice never prevails. The wicked hem in the righteous, so that justice is perverted.

-Habakkuk 1:4

Darkness has descended upon the world; the fabric of society has been torn asunder, sovereign nations collapse under their own burdens, once stable governments are ushered into revolution and allies of old are thrust into war. The tentacles of darkness have inevitably traveled across the Atlantic and are now tightening their grip on the American republic.

Now, faced with a collapsing economy, a failing currency and a society that is swiftly casting its humanity aside, the United States stands at the precipice of a bedlam and malevolence not witnessed since the fall of Rome.

Part 1 follows several characters who strive to navigate the chaos, including:

Jake, his wife and brother are forced to flee the maelstorm of violence as it spills from the cities and into their small town enclave.

A Texas State Guardsmen deep behind enemy lines on South Padre Island, stands with his compatriots against a wave of unspeakable atrocities committed by a ruthless cartel alliance committed to seizing the spoils of the American southwest.

An outlaw and his Catahoula cur companion, learn to survive and even thrive in their river swamp domain as they seek a redoubt from the troubles that plague the world beyond.

A radical revolutionary intent on plunging the wounded nation into revolution as he stokes the flames of hatred and destruction.

Part 1 is a novella length (approximately 20,000 words) and encompasses the first eight chapters of the series.

This series is written in a manner that is accessible by even those who are not fans of collapse or survival literature. So if you're not a fan of the genre, give it a shot, I think you'll enjoy it.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"A worthwhile glimpse into the former USA's near-future."  -WRSA

"The US and the world is pretty much in the throws of a global depression... The Federal Government is impotent and the Mexican Narco terrorists have made moves on reclaiming most portions of the southwestern swath of the US... Throw in the usual third world antagonists  and I think you have a pretty damn good narrative." -Ad Parare

"I rarely recommend fiction written in the past century, but Archer's fiction is an exception that I highly recommend you check out."
-The Arctic Patriot

5.0 out of 5 stars Great realistic story August 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The interweaving story of Clayton, Barret and his men, Jake, and his brother, and William is keeping me wanting to know more .

Excellent plot development. Your letting the reader gain more knowledge of the how and why as the story goes on. I am glad you don't have "zombies" but are using what would be real world senarios.

I would consider it to be a novella. Keep up the good work. I would buy this is paperback as a whole when part 3 is finished.

A very big thank you for not using vulgar language. I have found good writing does not require it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Southern society affected by corruption.... March 20, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The quote "Two types of people - opportunists and revoutionaries" caught my attention. "Need constitutionalists" in our society..

From drug wars to cattle thieves, this short book covers a lot in a few pages. Violence abounds with no let-up...

Makes one wonder if there will be a safe haven anywhere! Part 2 should supply some of these answers....

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty standard fare September 25, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I didn't really dislike this book, but there was nothing in it to really drag me into the story. The characters were flat and without personality and the situations they found themselves in were predictable for the most part and did not make the reader want to rush out and buy the next installment to see how it turned out. Fortunately, Part I was free so I didn't lose anything but my time,
Even with my lack of enthusiasm for the book, I didn't really hate it, and I might even buy the next installment some day. Just not while I have something better to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars faith, freedom & firearms July 8, 2012

Format:Kindle Edition
Superb book, with multiple story lines centered about what very well may be a realistic glimpse into what could assuredly be our future - border wars in the south, an overwhelmed and increasingly tyrannical federal government opposing increasingly sovereign states, the social breakdown of society; it's all there in a remarkably well-written story. The Western Front is in the same class as James Wesley Rawles' or John Grits' novels, dynamic, gripping, as well as a great realistic story. Looking forward to the next edition of this book, if it continues along the same arc as the first part it will be a great read.

It is interesting and somewhat exciting, but the books are very short and end at cliffhangers. All three books could make on good size novel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good January 21, 2013
By MIO
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a good fiction story line. As long as that is kept in perspective this is a good read.
The Good: I was skeptical but then hooked by the story line and enjoyed it.
The Bad: Hummers cant defeat everything, the brushguards in fact are held by weak pins as most Soldiers know. Maybe the superduper specops in stories don't pull daily grunge maintenance and know these things. and on that subject:
You don't have to be a Seal to be a warfighter and skilled. Can't take anything from Seals they are good at what they do and worked hard to get there but so did the rest of us.
The Ugly:The story line bounces, hard and you need to stay with it. I promise it comes together but it does take a bit.
All in all I read all 3 in one day so good job on the story and keep it up.

5.0 out of 5 stars You need to get all 3 parts January 8, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
You need to get all 3 parts of this book as the 1st part will only make you want parts 2 & 3. It is a must read book and although a work of fiction, I could see some of the things happening with our economy and where it's headed, it appeared to me that the author is very well versed on what poor leadership will head if their agenda is somewhat different than what our country was formed as.

3.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read.
I enjoyed it quite a bit especially the fact that most of it was based in Texas, However I think the price for the smaller serial installments was a bit high.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a Western
This is not quite Sci-Fi, but it borders on it. The author projects what will happen to America down the road if it continues to be a godless society.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It is just as engaging as 299 days and Holding Their Own. Looking forward to getting started on the second book.
