If I hadn't read the book this might have been an ok movie. However, the movie is NOTHING like the book! I use it to show my students what they are missing out so many times when they watch a movie instead of reading the book...We Venn Diagram the movie and the book. It makes a good compare and contrast.

I had my English class read the book, they loved it and of course asked if a movie was ever made. I told them about the terrible reviews that it got, but they said they'd write a comparison if I let them watch it. Deal! Anything to get them to write more. 90% of them liked the book more and most thought the movie was terrible and changed far too many details.

If you're looking for a faithful adaptation of the book, look elsewhere. This movie bulldozed over key characters and plot points. So disappointing.

This is a cute movie that goes along with the Novel The Westing Game. The book is MUCH better, but my 6th graders enjoy the movie. As an educator, the movie lends itself to a great writing prompt on Compare and Contrast. I am glad I purchased the movie.

This movie is unbelievably bad. More the shame, because it is (loosely) based on one of the very best children's books, and best mystery novels, ever written. I remember well staying up until 4am one weekend night when I was eleven, reading this book cover-to-cover. Adjectives fail to capture how wonderful and remarkable the original book is, which makes it particularly loathsome that someone has managed to make a film that is at once boring and distasteful out of it. Actually, the film shares little with the book besides the title, the names of a few characters, and the lyrics to a song. If the author were still alive, she'd sue for defamation. Smash your DVD player with a sledgehammer rather than subject yourself to this movie.

My fifth grade class read the book" The Westing Game" and enjoyed it. They did not enjoy this movie. There was so much "poetic license" taken in the movie it barely resembled much of the book. There was no mystery in the movie. It was quite boring to say the least!

The video was a follow-up to reading the book of the same title. The video, though different from the book, is fun. It arrived in a timely manner and was in reasonably good condition, though used. It was not in quite as good a condition as I believed the seller was claiming, but maybe I was just too optimistic.

I'm not one who requires strict adherence to the source material in movies. Sometimes what works on the page just doesn't translate well or would make the film too long or complicated. This film however is so different from the book I'm not surprised that there is an alternate release with a different title. On top of that it's "after school special" quality of acting makes it hard to make I through the whole thing.
