Product Description
Go inside the shocking world of a man deemed too controversial even for Greenpeace; a man who has been accused of eco-terrorism; a man who some call the most daring marine environmental activist ever. It seems Paul Watson, founder of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, Greenpeace-expellee and star of the reality television series Whale Wars, will stop at nothing to save endangered creatures of the sea. Not government hostility, not jail time, not even threats on his life and the lives of his crew. But are the extreme actions of this environmentalist honorable or unjustifiable? Find out in Whale Warrior: Pirate for the Sea. Plus, see footage of Sea Shepherds most dangerous and controversial missions not seen on TV. The film stars Paul Watson, Farley Mowat, Robert Hunter, and Martin Sheen, and features bonus footage including Sheen, Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and others.

This film is not yet rated; contains scenes of graphic violence that may not be suitable for all viewers.

At last a biography about Captain Paul Watson, founder and president of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, is available on film. "Pirate for the Sea" gives you an insight into the life and struggle of one of the most truthful, devoted and persistent environmental activists. Even if you should not agree with his militant approach and his aggressive tactics - which have never caused a single injury on the side of his opponents - you will be fascinated by his emotional and mental strength to keep on fighting for the oceans in the face of overwhelming force and with limited resources for more than 30 years now. Any other person would have probably given up - but not Paul Watson. Apparently no setbacks, bureaucratic harassment or death threats can stop him, thus making him a unique and extraordinarily inspiring person.
Beside Watson's environmental campaigns and all the dramatic scenes, the documentary also shows his family background and his experiences in his early childhood and youth which left their mark on his personality and paved the way of his career as an eco-warrior.

"I am a conservationist and that is my business, getting in trouble. I'm here to say things people do not want to hear and to do things people do not want to see. I'm here to piss people off. That is my job."

Highly recommended!

When The Stranglers had a hit with "No more heroes" in 1977, they were slightly ahead of the actions Paul Watson had in mind. He is one of a kind : fierce in his convictions, yet kind and compassionate in his personal relations. Paul has been jailed so many times he lost count of it. He has been threatened by Canadian seal clubbers. He has even been shot by Japanese whalers. But he never gives up. He says you cannot expect to be a conservationist and want governments and most people to like you. He is not after the "Chevron environmental award", he just goes out there to protect the whales, the seals, the sharks and the fish.

Paul Watson is not only an activist, he is also a philosopher. The documentary and the bonus features include some of his speeches, which show that his battles emerge from a thorough understanding of what is at stake. Humankind is extinguishing so many species, in such a short period, on our insignificantly small spaceship Earth, that ultimately, extinguishing all those species, we - as a small part of the larger web of life in the biosphere - will also perish. Men like Paul are blamed to be spreading doom and gloom. Rush Limbaugh compared Watson to Cassandra; Paul responded that Limbaugh forgot to mention that Cassandra *was right*...

Fishermen all around the globe blame other species for the collapse of the fisheries. Never ever is human activity taken into account. Japan kills whales and dolphins, blaming them for eating fish. Canada massacres seals, blaming them to eat cod. (Compare this to global warming - the same "logic" is repeated by governments and the big corporations that sustain them; if it ever occurs to them to acknowledge global warming, it is blamed... on the sun, or China, or whatever...

Please purchase this directly from the Sea Shepherd website. It is under the name "Pirate for the Sea" and it has a white cover. The movie is exactly the same. I watched them both at the same time (on laptop and dvd player) and nothing is different except for the DVD cover and the "Play Movie" screen.I don't know how Amazon is getting away with this but Sea Shepherd is looking into it. It costs about $5 more on the Sea Shepherd website but you will know that you are directly supporting Sea Shepherd.

This video goes into the history of Paul Watson, how he got started and his passion for what he does. It is a very interesting story. After watching this video, I admire what this man does even more. He risks his life to save the creatures of the sea who really have no one else to save them. International laws do not carry much weight on the open sea. Due to this man creating pressure and publicity, he causes countries that break international laws to stop whaling. He also works at saving other species such as dolphin, sharks and other valuable sea creatures that are being hunted by man to extinction. Keep at it Paul!!
