Editorial Reviews

George Cochrane has been releasing electronic music for over 8 years under various pseudonyms and spanning many eclectic sub-genres- from banging dancefloor tech house to funky downtempo produced completely from live beatbox samples. "The White Pinecone" represents a departure from that sound into a more song-oriented direction- riveting, immediate, and uniquely personal, while still holding onto a dancefloor friendly vibe. Shacking up in his San Francisco studio, George began to piece together the bits that would eventually make up The White Pinecone. Armed with finely honed electronic production skills, considerable instrumental ingenuity, and an array of emotions to get off his chest, surprising things began to spark. Hip-shaking live drums and interlocking guitars turn sweaty numbers like "Click Clack Click" and "Proving Nothing" into late-night burners, while George's vocals coo and purr over an elastic electronic bounce on "Snowed In" and "You Don't Know Me". Sleekly slipping from electro-infused synth pop to shoegaze and disco, The White Pinecone's facets shine brightly with a compellingly gritty edge.

Ladies and gentleman, meet this generation's white Prince. Dude plays everything on the album, and somehow manages to creative a cohesive record by smashing house, rock, disco, indie and '80s funk into one beautiful whole.

This is dance music with a rock n' roll soul, or rock with dance music's ever-shaking robot-booty. Or something. Whatever way you slice it, it's damn good. Will appeal to those who love Junior Boys and Hot Chip, but want something a little grittier and more dance-friendly, or those who dig on house grooves but who are craving a bit more substance to go with their beats.

Should you listen to this? I guess only if you give a crap about treating your ears to what's Next. Definitely a killer debut for Dinner Party Records.
