Book Description

Could the writings of the ancient Hebrew prophets be relevant to events taking place in the world today?

These Hebrew prophets - Isaiah, Jeremiah, Habbakuk and the apostle John, in The Revelation - wrote extensively about a latter day city and empire which would dominate, exploit and corrupt all the nations of the world.  They referred to it as Babylon the Great, or Mega-Babylon, and they foretold that its fall - 'in one day' - would devastate the economies of the whole world.  Have these prophecies been fulfilled already?

Is Mega-Babylon the Roman Catholic Church?
A world super-church?
Rebuilt ancient Babylon?
Brussels, Jerusalem, or somewhere entirely different?
Should this city/nation have a large Jewish population?
Why all the talk about merchants, cargoes, commodities, trade?

Can we rely on the words of these ancient prophets?
If so, what else did they foretell that is still to be fulfilled?
Do they refer to other major nations - USA, Russia, China, Europe?
What about militant Islam?

My background is in lecturing, publishing and radio/TV - but previously I ran a construction business. I still love to know how things are put together - buildings, origins of words, phrases - so I have used a similar approach in exploring, what I believe to be, an extremely important and relevant topic.

Review

"... AMAZED when I read this book ... in awe of your extensive knowledge on so many levels: Christian, Jewish, and Muslim culture; the Jewish diaspora ... Greek & Hebrew; and your panoramic view of history through a biblical world view ... thought-provoking and troublesome ... many will be offended, but you consistently build your case instead of being sensationalistic."
James Revoir, author of Priceless Stones

From the Author

I have been involved in many things in my life, designing and manufacturing furniture, electrical sales, running a construction business, marketing French perfume, college lecturing in computing, radio presenting and production, TV documentaries ...

I've been a professional writer for over twenty years - firstly writing a regular series and other articles, reviews and reports for UK technical magazines.  From 1990-96 I edited and published the Irish magazine, 'Bread,' releasing a book from this in 1995.  Since then I've been involved in media of all kinds - from web design, to podcasting, satellite and internet radio, and documentary TV production.

'The Whore and her Mother' originally developed out of one episode in a radio series, which will shortly be broadcasting on satellite around most of the world. I felt the subject too interesting and dramatic to be confined to the fairly narrow, evangelical Christian world.  These words of the Hebrew prophets are regarded as 'holy' by the world's three main religions, and it is only fair to present them - and my conclusions from them, so far - to as wide an audience as possible.

Previously I ran a construction business. I still love to know how things are put together - buildings, origins of words, phrases - so I have used a similar approach in exploring, what I believe to be, an extremely important and relevant topic.  I am convinced that there is enough evidence today to back up the predictions of these men, and that we are justified in taking very seriously all of their writings - and acting upon them, accordingly.  Judge that for yourselves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thought provoking & enlightening. May 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I don't usually read non fiction and almost certainly not books connected to CHristian theology.

However I could not put this book down. I won't claim to agree with everything Raymond McCullough says but it is a very enlightened read. His painstaking research and interest in the subject is evident throughout.

Mr McCullough has the ability to expound on the Old Testament prophecies without preaching and moralising; a trait many church leaders seem unable to avoid. It certainly answered a lot of my questions about the symbolism in the Book of Revelation and reminded me of things I have long wondered about but not understood fully. I am a wee bit disappointed there was nothing about the horsemen of the Apocalypse as they have always fascinated me but I can't knock any stars off for that because this book deserves attention.

Read this and make yourself aware of what is to come. McCullough does not claim to have all the answers but he is honest about the conclusions he has drawn.

I recommend this because whatever your religious faith (Or lack thereof) there is something in it that will apply to you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Insightful and intriguing November 3, 2011
Format:Paperback
Raymond has put together a book full of facts and interpretations that I have found to be very enlightening, to say the least.
I am only now able to write this review after reading fully his book `The Whore and her Mother'
Drawing on what seems to be a bottomless pit of knowledge he fames the essence of this simply beautiful work of literature with the solid realities and sobering facts of terrible world events.
It is at times very frightening yet it allows the reader to draw upon a hidden strength captured within the truths held in its pages.
I would recommend this book to anyone interested in prophetic teaching and for those who are searching for reasons in this crazy world.
I have personally studied such things during the course of my life and can confidently say I have a broad knowledge of biblical theology and interpretation. Yet Raymond has opened up new doors that until now, I had not realised where there or simply passed them by.
Most surprisingly, I left this book with a new feeling, one of renewed hope and reassurance amidst a story of terrible tragedy.

Great work!
