More About the Author

Grace Burrowes started writing as an antidote to empty nest and soon found it an antidote to life in general. She is the sixth out of seven children, raised in the rural surrounds of central Pennsylvania. Early in life she spent a lot of time reading romance novels and practicing the piano. Her first career was as a technical writer and editor in the Washington, DC, area, a busy job that nonetheless left enough time to read a lot of romance novels.

It also left enough time to grab a law degree through an evening program, produce Beloved Offspring (only one, but she is a lion), and eventually move to the lovely Maryland countryside.

While reading yet still more romance novels, Grace opened her own law practice, acquired a master's degree in Conflict Transformation (she had a teenage daughter by then) and started thinking about writing.... romance novels. This aim was realized when Beloved Offspring struck out into the Big World a few years ago. ("Mom, why doesn't anybody tell you being a grown-up is hard?")

Grace eventually got up the courage to start pitching her manuscripts to agents and editors. The query letter that resulted in "the call" started out: "I am the buffoon in the bar at the RWA retreat who could not keep her heroines straight, could not look you in the eye, and could not stop blushing--and if that doesn't narrow down the possibilities, your job is even harder than I thought." (The dear lady bought the book anyway.)

I bought these 3 books separately over time and the set ended up on my keeper shelf. I preferred two books over the third, but like the continuity of the story line. If you haven't read them yet, this bundle is definitely worth the price since each one is a full-length novel.

I started reading the series with Lady Sophia's Christmas Wish which I got free during a seasonal promotion. It was so well written and engaging that I sought out the next book Grace Burrowes had written and found this collection which features the three surviving sons of the Duke and Duchess of Moreland. The concept of "an heir and a spare" was unknown to me before reading these books, but makes sense in securing the succession to the dukedom. In this case, both the heir and the spare died leaving the third son in the position to inherit. All three sons are pressured by their father to marry and have sons of their own, though none of them are willing to marry to fulfill an obligation. Their parents had married for love and the sons wanted that relationship for themselves. How they managed to find wives they loved is at the heart of these stories which have many twists and turns, mysteries and suspense. All the characters are so well developed that I truly cared what happened to them and the dialogue was witty and warm. The books were well edited, a matter I take very seriously, and flowed along carrying me with them. The tension between characters and mystery surrounding each of the women kept me reading late into the night. I even found myself speaking with the rhythm and vocabulary of the characters when I wasn't reading! I've continued following the members of this family through several other books of the series and dread reading the last one because I know I will miss them. Fortunately there were ten children so I have several more books to read. I would recommend this series to anyone.

I had these books on my Kindle for a while before I started reading them. And once I started, I couldn't stop. The three stories are about three brothers - and the relationships between the brothers was so sweet and tender that it made me really love them all. The female characters were strong and interesting. At times, I found myself frustrated with the characters' hesitations to embrace love, but as with all romance novels, it ended happily ever after for all of them. Highly recommended.

I truly like Grace Burrowes and I'm happy that I've now read all the books in the Windham series. I sobbed my heart out reading 'Virtuoso' because it was such an angsty story of healing and redemption. Ms Burrowes knows how to make her H's human and affectionate and understanding. I can highly recommend this bundle.

It's about time this author took a long, hard look at the actual English habits, cooking, behaviour, tradition, clothing etc. relevant to the period she writes about and stopped imbuing her characters, households and way of life with odd American ideas, not least an obsession with eating muffins and scones for breakfast and men drinking endless lemonade. Where do all these lemons come from?

If she can't be bothered to do her own research, at least she should read a bit of Jane Austen or Bronte, to get the general idea.

I have read other titles by Grace Burrows which i have loved and "The Windham" Series Books 1-3 definitely did not let me down. The characters were strong and well developed while Grace Burrows style of writing captivates you from the start making you feel a part of the Windahm family thread as you read the story of Gayle, Valentine and Delvin. I will definitely be looking out for other titles written by Grace Burrowes and reading more from the Windham series. Well worth the money.

Well, if staying up until 2:00 am is any indication, they are exceedingly good reads. NOT your typical bodice rippers, although the book jackets would make you think otherwise. Well developed characters, good plots - a little repetitive and predictable, but good enough to overlook that. Good writing about intimacy - both physical and emotional. I'm going to continue to read her books. They are not intellectually challenging, but they are certainly absorbing and entertaining.
