About the Author

The fire that started in the heart of Steve Perry as a child born to a teen mother, living in public housing still rages on in him as a man who founded and currently directs and organization that prepares low-income high school students for college.

Steve Perry's commitment to the community began long before he received his Masters In Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania. Even as an undergraduate, he proved that here is more than one road to take to empower the community. Whether working for a US Senator, mayor or presidential candidate as an undergraduate at the University of Rhode Island, or later while serving as director of a homeless shelter, Steve has explored many facets of empowerment.

Perry's commitment and success have not gone unnoticed. He has received several state and regional awards for causes ranging from promoting educational access to low-income students to fighting all forms of secual violence. He is a 1995 TRIO Achiever and was given the Connecticut Student Leadership Award. Steve Perry has been a candidate for state representative and an adjunct professor, while at the same time serving on numerous regional and local boards.

I purchased The Window Pain while I was doing a booksigning in New Jersey and I am glad that I did. I started it last night and finished it this morning. Steve Perry tells a powerful tale about a young man, Tarique, raised in an abusive household until his mother gets the courage to flee. After that, they build a new life and Tarique experiences all of the common issues facing young boys as they become men. His best friend, Shandell, is just as intriguing and the two of them pack a powerful message for the youth of today. I have a fourteen-year-old son and I am placing the novel in his hand the second he comes through the door today. Hopefully he will learn things from the characters in the book that I could never fully express to him.

writter takes way too long to get to the point. Instead of liking the characters they become annoying.
