More About the Author

Author Louise Wilson was inspired to create her first book, the Wine Lovers Coloring Book, while studying to become a sommelier. The Wine Lovers Coloring Book offers a fun and approachable format, with 50 fully colored and labeled maps highlighting the most important wine regions around the world, along with a written summary of wines produced in each area. Then, unlike any other book if its kind, the Wine Lovers Coloring Book also includes blank maps for the reader to test their knowledge by coloring from memory. The book contains enough information for a sommelier to pass their exams, but its unique and lighthearted nature makes it equally appealing to the casual wine drinker and the perfect gift for the wine lover who has (almost) everything. For casual weekend imbibers to full-fledged wine aficionados, the Wine Lovers Coloring Book quenches the desire to learn a little more about wine.

One of the most important skills a student can learn is learning how to learn - and there are some basic principles that apply no matter what your field of study. Most people will retain only about 10% of what they hear. Seeing and hearing at the same time boosts that up to about 20% (This is one of the reasons teachers tend to write on the board.) If you can see and hear and say and write something all at the same time you can boost your retention of the material to levels approaching 50%. And that is where coloring books come in for certain things that require a lot of memorization. Coloring books are de rigueur in Anatomy and Physiology, for example, where every muscle, every bone, even every marking on the bones must be memorized.

Not every student taking a class in Beverage Management will need to know the volume of material Louise Wilson makes available in the pages of The Wine Lover's Coloring Book, but those who wish to pursue careers as sommeliers, as well wine lovers who just really want to know their subject, will find this an invaluable study guide.

Don't forget the colored markers or pencils!

If you're hoping to pass sommelier exams ... this book can shave weeks off your study time and save you the headache of drawing your own maps. The following maps are included: France/Loire Valley/Champagne/Alsace/Burgundy/Cote D'Or/Bordeaux/Rhone Valley/Languedoc/ Provence/Italy/Piedmont/Veneto/Tuscany/Spain/Rioja-Navarra/Jerez-Xeres/Portugal/Douro/Germany/Austria plus the New World which includes WA/OR/CA/AUS/NZ/SOUTH AFRICA. The maps have easy-to-read fonts and bright colors. There's a short informational blurb
included with every map too. If you're a serious student ... definitely well worth the $$$.

I think this book could be taken to another level and make it fun and campy with more things to color than simply countries--such as pages now and then with wine barrels or some grapes when speaking of grapes but it is really geared to be a tactile way of allowing the reader to learn where their favorite wines come from, how the climates effect the taste, and how the regional grapes make a difference--and more.

I think it could be visually a bit more fun--even making the words larger and in a more visually appealing font for the reader...I mean we are talking coloring book here: let's get a little more artsy--

but I'm going to be a bit more picky about the visuals as an artist myself. That said, I am also a wine lover and that is what brought this to a 4 star for me as it really hits the mark on doing what it is meant to do--which is teach the reader in a more fun way so very much about this "nectar of the Gods". While what you will be coloring is actually regions and countries so you feel a bit more like you are in Geography class than a class on a favorite guilty pleasure, it's a fun way of going about it, even if you simply read the pages and color nothing.

I think this makes a very fun add-on gift or stocking stuffer for a wine loving friend or loved one as well. Great to bring as a hostess gift with a bottle of wine as well.

Product provided by Louise Wilson, review is my honest and unbiased opinion.

This is a terrific book for all ages - I can use it for fun or for serious studying of the wine world and it's regions. The text covers the important elements of the regions without being too wordy. Fun for kids and adults and useful too.

I've been looking for a way to get more "hands on" with learning the geography for wine appellations. I made a joke one day to a friend that it would be great if there was a coloring book for wine... did a search and found this one!!
I am very pleased!!!!

Love wine, but don't know much about regions? This book will help you focus and will provide visual entertainment as you learn.

The author, Louise Wilson, has produced a way for those who want/need to know more about wine to learn both visually & by reading text. While the book is lacking a few things - table of contents & page numbers - overall, The Wine Lover's Coloring book is a good basic reference book & would make a nice stocking stuffer or hostess gift (with a bottle of wine, of course).

The Wine Lover's Coloring Book discusses both Old & New World regions, but is a little lighter on the New World. It may be better if the author would instead break the Wine Lover's into a series and do a more in depth history/description of the regions.

Additionally, and especially since this is a coloring book & meant to be fun, I would have liked to see a more visually pleasing presentation of text (the text is in large paragraph blocks that are easy to zone out on). I think the paragraphs would present better if broken up with lists or other visual breakers.

However, information-wise, what is presented in the book, especially the Old World region information, is quite good. The book is certainly worth picking up for those who want to know more about wine regions.

**I received The Wine Lover's Coloring Book from the author. I do not know the author personally. The opinions written are my own.**
