4.0 out of 5 stars Cover-to-Cover, Wire-to-Wire

2.0 out of 5 stars This One's Not a Winner!
The book covered the 1990 Reds championship in great detail. I found it difficult to get through. It took a very exciting season and made it rather dull. Also, there were a few errors in the book (duplicate text) that were a bit annoying. I really would not recommend this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cover-to-Cover, Wire-to-Wire, June 5, 2010
This review is from: The Wire-to-Wire Reds: Sweet Lou, Nasty Boys, and the Wild Run to a World Championship (Paperback)
Wire-to-Wire, The Nasty Boys, Sweet Lou. Marge and Schottzie. Mention any of these to a Reds fan and they can only mean one thing; The 1990 Cincinnati Reds.

John Erardi and Joel Luckhaupt have managed to recreate the magic of a once in a lifetime baseball season and transfer it to the printed page. 1990, to Cincinnati Reds fans, remains a mythical, magical season that earned a special place in our hearts and stays there to this day. In accomplishing something that even the fabled Big Red Machine teams weren't able to do this team earned its place in Cincinnati legend and lore.

From the introduction, written by Hall-of-Fame announcer Marty Brennaman, to the Reunion chapter and the Where Are They Now page this book takes readers through that season bringing out points long forgotten, or never known at all, as well as being filled with great photos and easily digested statistics. It will give insight as to how this team was constructed as well as what they went through to overcome the previous years problems. Using great statistical analysis to break down virtually every component of this team you will see how they won. Written in a style that encourages you to go Cover-to-Cover it will bring back all the great personalities, all of the great games and plays, and all of the stories within the story of that team.

This is the best Posnanski book ever written by a guy not named Joe Posnanski and I am sure you will enjoy it as much as I did. You will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cover to Cover With the Wire to Wire Boys, June 11, 2010
This review is from: The Wire-to-Wire Reds: Sweet Lou, Nasty Boys, and the Wild Run to a World Championship (Paperback)
This story of the 1990 Cincinnati Reds world championship team is satisfying on many levels, especially if you are a Reds fan. The abilities of the two authors nicely complement each other. Erardi, a longtime Cincinnati newspaperman, had a history of covering the team and a relationship with the players that allowed access and interviews with the principals. Luckhaupt, a 21st century blogger, has the numbers chops to do the sort of numberical analysis that many younger fans demand these days. The two writers effectively combine their abilities to make one outstanding book, full of emotion as well as analysis. A great book for a Reds fan, and interesting for any baseball fan.

This book was purchased as a Father's Day gift - enjoyed by the father and now passed down to the son. A great book for those who lived through that Wire-to-Wire season with the Reds and any fan of the game.
