One of my favourite books, by I think my very favourite author ~ This tale offers immediately useful and intensely practical wisdom for *anyone* yet childlike enough to receive it. It was one of those *life-transforming* books for me, and (no exaggeration) I have been happier ever since I read it over a year ago -- because it is the sort of book you not only read , but DO!

A note regarding the publisher -- this version is well done. I purchased one from a lesser publisher prior to buying this one and apparently all the text had been scanned and the result was illegible. I'm not sure why they found it fit to sell, but I did not find it fit to read. At any rate, this one does not suffer from such poor workmanship and offers a clear window through for the glory of the message to shine through!

George MacDonald is both a master of fantasy and a thoughtful theologian. The Wise Woman presents him at his best in both of these realms. Although this story is light enough to read to children, it deals with serious and thought provoking situations. The subject matter is very applicable to our present day -- read it and think about it! One cannot help but take away some good lessons from this book!

My sister-in-law recently told me about George MacDonald, the author of this book--a Scottish author born in the mid 1850's. His writings influenced authors such as C.S. Lewis and Tolkien. I really enjoyed reading many of the works of C.S. Lewis, so upon learning about MacDonald, I was curious but felt maybe his fairy tales wouldn't be to my liking. Nevertheless, I respected my relative's recommendation, bought this title and soon found myself deeply enjoying the stories. It was easy reading and contained wonderful life lessons valuable down through the ages. I think it is suitable for young and old alike. I felt very satisfied when I finished reading it and wondered why hadn't I known about this author before!!

George MacDonald was a BRILLIANT composer of words to tell a story. In all my 60 years I have never heard such beautiful prose; words knitted together so eloquent and sweet and bitter and harsh; He runs the gamut of creative ability with his work. The Wise Woman is a lovely story, just as a fairy tale. And, when you shake off the top layers and bury your brain deep in between the words, the tale you find will make you question your reality. What else could you want from an author? Get this book and read it.

Now I really love George MacDonald's books after reading several ones.

First, I love his imaginations, which are far beyond mine;
Second, I love his deeply insights into human's mind and behaviors;
Third, I love his beautiful language.

I will certainly read more his stories, but I have no power to suggest others to read because this is only my personal feeling after reading his books.
