Book Description

With a little romance, a little fantasy, a little gardening, and a cottage in New England, what's not to love?

Mara seems happy growing herbs and running her herbal remedy and skin care business. Her deepest desire, however, is to run back to the life she had before her failed marriage. But there is a secret pinning her here, a secret seemingly straight from a fairytale.

When Jonathan Perry enters Mara's life, she finds a person in whom she can confide. But her ex-husband holds the key to her astounding secret and won't relinquish the control he still has over her.

Mara struggles with the call of her old life while beginning to find happiness in Jonathan's steadying presence. But will her ex-husband let her keep any happiness she may find?

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, touching, and an overall great read May 21, 2012

I was a little skeptical when I first glanced at the description for this book since it seemed like there was nothing new about this story, but after I read the first page I was hooked and had to buy it right then and there. After reading this delightful tale in one sitting, I must say my initial skepticism about The Witch of Starmont couldn't seem more silly to me now.

Mara caught my attention right away. She was mysterious, alluring, and right away I could feel her loneliness. She was a great three-dimensional character that I really connected with. Her children were delightful, and Johnathan was powerful and marvellous right from the beginning. And of course, I instantly disliked that evil ex-husband.

From the beginning I was also curious about Mara's secret. The author did a wonderful job of hinting at the secret without overly pressing it on the reader, and was also mysterious enough about it that it kept me guessing. I was very surprised when I finally found out what the secret was, and it was nothing like what I had thought when I initially purchased the book.

This book is one of those rare tales that make you feel like you're in the story rather than just reading a story. I love the cozy feeling the author establishes in the beginning. Not only does she give you that warm and comfy feeling, but she is also excellent at at provoking anger and suspense in an artful way. Overall this was a great read, and I'm looking forward to more of her works in the future.

More About the Author

I live in Ohio with my husband, one dog, and a varying number of cats. My two children are in college.

I've always been a bit of a dreamer and my imagination is often in overdrive. Let's just say that I don't have to dig too deep to find my inner child.

Adventures are always fun, and I've had a few, but now my knees have ground to a halt, and my feet are rebellious. So my adventures are fewer, and more tame. They often involve a book, either reading or writing one. A good book can make you feel like you've just climbed a snow-clad mountain, or sprinted a desert path under the burning sun, or swum in the deep ocean alongside a whale. It feels like you're the one having the adventure. So if I'm typing away at the computer or if I'm snuggled up with a book and don't look up when you call, it's because I'm busy - off on an adventure. Try again later.
