5.0 out of 5 stars GAMING AS IT SHOULD BE! July 10, 2010
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Were I a member of the gaming Industry right now, I would be shamed to be taught what gaming should look and feel like and how it should be marketed by a small Eastern European company. Who of the multi-billion gaming "giants" ever went back to improve a released game? Yet, there you have it: thanks to CD-PROJECT gaming as an art-form is still alive and kicking!

This was the most awaited fantasy cRPG 3 years ago. Not only did the original deliver, but even more work has gone into truly improving it. This PLATINUM edition is patched (to the latest version, 1.5), DRM-free and uncensored. It also offers about 10-12 hours of extra gameplay, as it comes with a Bonus DVD containing new adventures, a printed Guide, printed Manual and a soundtrack CD - all in a beautiful cardboard box, reminding us of the golden age of gaming.

The environments are detailed, realistic, and can be experienced from up close. Grass, flowers and tree branches moved in both Fable and Titan Quest as well; these, however, seem so true I caught myself reaching for my...antihistamines! Weather affects and day-night alterations (you have to see the elongating shadows to believe them!) are just gorgeous! More importantly, these are not just eye-candy: certain NPCs and monsters appear only when the correct combination of time-of-day and weather coincide...The horizon is far and the clouds move in endless variations. It reminded me of the sky of the original UNREAL, another visually ground-breaking game at its time. PURE VISUAL MAGIC!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great game, some installation and tech issues April 22, 2011

I bought the Director's Cut Enhanced Edition Platinum. I thought I had trouble with the install but the patch installed just fine. This game has the potential to be the best in it's genre. If you are a fan of RPG, like great graphics (beautiful graphics) then you have to get this one. Five stars for the game. It's nice to have a good European RPG, and even nicer to see the great effort they put into the storyline, UI, interactivity, etc.

I will be pre-ordering the future next edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME GAME!!! December 31, 2012

Geralt of Rivia is one COOL Dude! This game ROCKS!!! I am in my 50's and I thoroughly enjoy this game. I bought this copy to replace my original set as my X got jealous and scratched up my first copy. So, I ordered a new copy and packed his things and moved him out. Wal-Mart only had The Witcher2 which is the next installment in the series. I hadn't finished the game once yet. Too many distractions and not enough free time. So, I was ecstatic when I found a copy on Amazon. So, even if you don't buy this game...and you should....check out Amazon for all your favorite games that are out of stock in the stores. We parted fairly amicably thanks to Amazon.

Game play is like other games where you follow quests and such. The game interface is easy to use even for a novice gamer and older folks. So, many choices change the game play that you will probably wear out the disk before you exhaust the possibilities. Just like in real life your game choices affect future events and outcomes..not just your score. I really like playing the dice poker sub-quest. There are a lot of "mods" on the forum to enhance your game play and a lot of nice folks, both older like myself and young folks to help and just interact with too. Not like some games where the experienced players snub and maltreat the newbies.

CDPROJEKT guys and gals really did a fantastic job creating this game. For experienced gamers the difficulty levels can be ramped up to keep you happy and wasting too much time in Rivia too. For us not so experienced, the easy and normal modes are challenging, but not so frustrating that you give up playing. This is a single player offline game with an online version battle arena. It only costs you the price of the game. Money well spent.

It's a pretty entertaining game, after several hours the only problem is the beginning of... There's a kind of inattention in this prologue for those who doesn't read the books yet and doesn't know the world of Geralt...
