2.0 out of 5 stars Simplistic Spellbook April 11, 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
In giving an honest review, I must say that I imagine most people would be somewhat disappointed with this book, though it is not downright terrible by any means.

There is not much information presented. The first 16 pages of content are very basic information on spells. More detailed information on such basic things as what a spell is, how the moon might be involved and so on are free throughout the internet.

I also have qualms with a stance taken by the author. They claim that love spells are 'white magic' spells, or in other words that controlling others is ethically acceptable, simply because the subject is love, and love is a good thing. I'm not sure if this is a flimsy justification for the guilty mind or just very poor logic, to put it gently. Either way the novice witch should be informed in a more honest and straightforward fashion than this, so that they can do what they will - but as informed decisions, not rationalized blurry lines.

I disagree with a few more little things here and there, but I'm not going to nitpick it to death, because:

The bulk of the book is simply various spells, and this is indeed a 'book of spells,' so this should be the weight of the review. Even here, though, I can't bring myself to award more than two stars. The spells are extremely simplistic. Some of them are nothing more than saying a sentence and wanting it to be true.

For example, the 'Realistic Dream Spell' involves relaxing and finding inner peace (no more detail than this is given), and then saying, "I like my thoughts and I like my dreams, so let me make my feel real," before going to bed. And that's the entire spell. I'm not sure if this particular spell was a typo, or if 'feel' was meant as a noun.

1.0 out of 5 stars Plagiarism strikes again! September 14, 2012
By M. Deos
Format:Kindle Edition
[...] This website contains the same text as this book; look under the preview section and begin reading the text after the table of contents... word for word its lifted from this website (or, test it for yourself; search google with a quote from this book, in quotation marks, and see where it comes up online. all of this is a copy-paste job of other people's work).

Bad form; I still believe in a world where authors actually WRITE the material we pay them for, not take it from other people and claim other's work as their own.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is a wonderful February 27, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I am a keen practitioner of witchcraft and I thought this book to be well written, very easy to read and understand and very good for both beginners and the more experienced practitioner. I have purchased a couple of other publications in recent months of a similar nature and this is by far the best. Highly recommend to anyone keen on learning about witchcraft or developing their existing knowledge, method, spells and skills. It is not simply a few spells that you can find online it's much more, very insightful with explanations and history behind witchcraft. I have learnt some new keep safe prayers. This book is a wonderful.

I am a 20+ year Pagan and a writer and writing instructor, and although the grammatical errors and youthful syntax in this book made me wince at times, I thoroughly enjoyed the breezy conversational style and common sense spell knowledge this author shares with us. Their sense of ethics is solid and their basic information sound. In other words, though the book needs a little polish and sophistication, it is still worth reading, and I am looking forward to more mature works from this author.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected. May 9, 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I guess I didn't read the description well enough, it isn't much thicker than a magazine. There is a lot of fluff and since it is so thin, very little real information. This "book" (if you can call it that) may be okay for a beginner wanting a sample on the subject. However, I don't think its value meets the price.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor November 4, 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I had high expectation from this book. Good preface, very small contents and from a poor background. It should have more deep contents. Poor and shallow.
