5.0 out of 5 stars Great Paranormal Romance! April 4, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This was my introduction to the writing of Lydia Dare, who is actually the dynamic writing team of two women who take turns writing parts of each book, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I have been reading quite a bit of YA books and Christian self-help/parenting books lately and I was in desperate need of a good romance novel, this hit the spot perfectly. This book is technically part of a series, the Westfield Wolves, but it is loosely connected and you do not have to read the books prior to understand this story at all, but be warned, Wolf Who Loved Me is so awesome, you will want to go back and read the others in this series and maybe the vampire ones too.

I love paranormal and historical fiction books and this romance novel fit all the criteria for a wonderful, quick, and lighthearted read for me. I was so into this book that I got up in the morning, started reading it, and pretty much neglected everything else all day, except getting out food to thaw for dinner, until I finished it. I could not put it down.

The story is fast paced, has action, regency romance, oh and a super hot guy who turns into a wolf, could it get any better? I think not. There are good guys, a bad guy, and two hot girls, one who is quite proper and one who is, well, not. This just makes for an interesting plot, though it may seem to have been done before, it hasn't. This book takes this plot in a whole new direction, mostly because of the paranormal aspect.

I don't really want to give away the plot of this book, except to say that after reading it, I can't wait for the books on the other two brothers to come out, I am so in love with this series.

I was surprised to find out that Lydia Dare was not a person, that in actuality two women took turns writing and editing this book, I would never have known, the writing is completely seamless, no mistakes between what one person wrote and what the other wrote. I was completely impressed.

One of the things I loved about this book was that it wasn't really dirty. I mean, it is a romance novel, so there is sex, but it is not graphic at all. I am not sure I have ever read a romance novel that was not graphic, and I enjoyed it just as much, if not more, than the ones I have read that did.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical romances, regency romances, paranormal romances, or is just in need of a good old fashioned love story, well with a Lycan mixed in that is.

I received this book as an ARC. I do not get paid to review books; I do so in order to assist you in recognizing books that you might enjoy.

From the moment I picked up The Wolf Who Loved Me I knew that Lydia Dare was going to take me on a wonderful journey. And let me tell you: I was right!

Wes and Maddie's love story was simply divine. It had all the right elements: passion, romance, wit, loveable characters, and even a dash of adventure and paranormal to bind it all together. In other words, it was practically perfect in every way!

I quiet enjoyed the paranormal element, as it is always a bit of a refreshing take to read a paranormal romance (shifters, in this case) set in a historical setting. I'm already a fan of both genres; when they are put together nicely, such as this one was, I'm even happier! I'm very anxious to read more about Dare's Lycans; as much as I loved Wes, his story only managed to wet my whistle about his pack. :)

Maddie's character was a bit hard to like, at least for a while. At the beginning of the book, she came across as strong, not wanting to be ruled by society or men, not wanting to be just married off to the highest bidder. And I respected her for that, I thought "Yeah, a heroine I can love!". But then she gets together with Wes, and another side to her character comes out. Suddenly, she acts like any other society miss, complaining about things that she needs, even though she knows that Wes does not have the money at that point to provide her with everything she grew up with. This attitude of hers, while done in such a way to still make her character kind of "cute" and likeable, was almost enough to make me hate her on the spot. Her demands simply drove nails into Wes as he realized, again and again, that he was not good enough for her, that he should walk away from her and continue to pine from a distance rather than ruin her for good. But, in the end, she did change (again) to a heroine that I could enjoy a bit more. She wasn't my favorite heroine, but she wasn't a disaster either--I far preferred her to Lucy (the actress that shows up for most of this book), which is a wonderful compliment, really!

I loved Wes. He tried so hard to make himself stay away from Maddie, believing that he wasn't the best man for her. I personally thought that Maddie didn't deserve him--if only because I would like to snatch him up instead! He was charming, he was funny...and most importantly, sexy! Okay, so perhaps the scar on the face did it for me; who doesn't love a "tortured" hero, anyway? (Though I would love to know how he got it; he told bits and pieces of the story, but that was it. I guess I shall have to read Dare's other books to find out).

The romance was great--both sweet and spicy, just the way that I like it.

If you are looking for a Historical, Paranormal Romance that is fun to read - here is your book! I have never been disappointed in Lydia Dare's books and The Wolf Who Loved Me is one of the best.

The Wolf Who Loved Me is a part of the Westfield Wolves series. This is one book that you do not feel as if you missed anything by not reading the others in the series. I will warn you that after you finish this book, you will want to read those books!

I love the characters, the action, the plot and that is wasn't too graphic. I thoroughly enjoy it and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes this genre.
