This is a great story for children & the pictures are imaginative. This could be a 5 star app if I could have the option to read it myself to my children on the main page. Though as it is I must mute the "Read To Me" & once once the narrator is done with the page, the text hides & we also miss the background music/sounds this way.

It's a cute enough story, with engaging pictures, but I get storybooks for my Kindle Fire to read them to my three year old, and this book has no option to read to yourself. The only menu options are Read to Me and Autoplay, and if you manually change the page, the woman starts reading. Very strange oversight.

The Wonderful Adventures of Nils Holgersson was the first 'big' book I've ever read as a kid and a highly original fairy tale. It's about Nils, a little Swede and a farm goose joining a flock of wild geese and traveling across their country - Sweden - learning a lot about the country and its countrymen, friendship, freedom vs. duty and responsibility... One of the main characters in the story is in fact Sweden as it was some 100 years ago as seen by a curious boy who never traveled before a freedom-seeking house goose and the flock of born-free, experienced but non-human travelers (the wild geese) who have their own interpretation of what they see on the ground. It's a long story and it's a big book, hundreds of pages long and I wouldn't be surprised if it was almost mandatory reading for all little Swedes as they grow up - anyone from Sweden can confirm this?? :)
Now... can you possibly tell the story of Nils' great adventure on 15 illustrated screens? Of course not. The illustrations are pretty and people and animals 'do' things when you touch them but... this is only the slightest hint at what the original story is about. Sure, Nils gets small, travels on the back of the goose and when he returns home he is kinder to his fellow animals. Which is good but it's not the story.
As of whether this rendering has an educational value... I am not so sure. Yes, it's a story, but it reads itself and it's impossible to stop the narrator from narrating and let the kids read on their own. Why? It doesn't encourage reading beyond the kid watching the read line being highlighted but I bet most would take advantage of the text-hiding option and simply and mostly passively listen to the narration then touch the goose, touch the duck (quack), touch the ping (oink), touch the car (vrooooom!!!), touch the pig again and so forth. And... remember kids: be nice to animals.
I'm afraid I have no choice but grant this app a 2-star rating and barely so. It has little education value and it trivializes one of the best fairy tales I've read as a kid. I'd highly recommend The Wonderful Adventures Of Nils And The Further Adventures Of Nils Holgersson or any other edition. Make sure to check the number of pages before you buy because it would be a shame to end up with some abbreviation. The full story should be at around 400 pages.

My sons favorite story
This is a great interactive story and whenever you touch an animal it makes a noise. Almost all the objects in each seen make a noise. The price was fantastic too, free!
