Book Description

October 11, 2011
Exuberant interior designer Muriel Brandolini presents the broad scope of her whimsical style, combining the contemporary with classic elegance. Muriel Brandolini’s exceptional taste and unconventional aesthetic have made her a celebrated international interior designer. Her multicultural background-Vietnam, the Caribbean, and France-has influenced her unusual style, which is a mix of exoticism, elegance, and fantasy. Her interiors are marked by a dynamic color sense, bold textures and patterns, and an unusual combination of antique and contemporary furnishings.
Beautifully photographed, this look into Brandolini’s sophisticated world includes profiles of select residences-ranging from a seductive apartment marked by a dramatic draped Marie Antoinette-style bed and an entryway embellished with beaded song lyrics, to an airy beach house with a stairwell of hanging embroidered lanterns. Considered a design laboratory, her legendary townhouse is shown in several iterations. Included are such signature details as fabric walls, slipper chairs covered in hand-pieced antique fabrics, found treasures, and Asian-style split bamboo window shades. This avant-garde style setter shows that with an unfettered imagination one can create an alluring home environment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Elegant and Excellent October 31, 2011
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a gorgeously produced book. The photography is the finest and the format is more than generous. Almost 300 pages of large, lush pictures.

The designer's style may be one of those love-it-or-hate-it propositions. However, even though it may not suit everyone's taste, I cannot imagine anyone actually hating these interiors. It isn't easy to pigeonhole Brandolini's style. It is certainly original and beautiful and not very low-key. My initial impression was sort of Tony Duquette meets the Far East. Lots of Oriental touches in lavish, colorful settings, both traditional and contemporary. A mostly modern look, but with antique and vintage pieces effectively used. Many of the furnishings and accessories are Brandolini's own creations.

Anyone who appreciates fine interior design should enjoy this book and find it an excellent source of unique ideas.n

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating like a Great Novel - Lovely Great Design December 17, 2011
Format:Hardcover
Until my October 2011 issue of Town and Country magazine arrived, I had never heard of Muriel Brandolini. Upon reading the article "Muriel's Moment", I immediately fell in love with her design style. Her style is captivating. I ordered her book online and it arrived 2 days ago. I can honestly say that I did not want to put it down. This is one great design book about her life and her taste. Most design books I have read do not hold my interest, but this book does. I love how free she is with her interior design and how she doesn't follow the "rules".

This is one book that I will go back to over and over again - just like the article in Town and Country magazine.

Thank goodness for Muriel Brandolini.

5.0 out of 5 stars BREATHTAKING, UNEXPECTED, INNOVATIVE, ARTISTIC November 30, 2011
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
IT IS APPROPRIATE TO SUM UP MURIEL BRANDOLINI'S STYLE AS BOHEMIAN CHIC. I HAVE A LARGE COLLECTION OF INTERIOR DESIGN BOOKS AND SO FAR, SHE IS THE BEST INTERIOR DESIGNER IN BOHEMIAN CHIC STYLE. SHE POSSESSES A MAGICAL WAND IN CREATING ORIGINAL INTERIORS IN HER PAST ENERGETIC AND COLORFUL PALETTES AS WELL AS HER PRESENT ELEGANT AND SUBDUED LOOKS. THIS IS A MUST HAVE BOOK FOR SOMEONE WHO APPRECIATES A GLOBAL OUTLOOK IN FURNITURE, HANDICRAFTS AS WELL AS CONTEMPORARY ARTS. MURIEL'S BOLD AND SKILLFUL USE OF FABRICS ON WALLS, EMBROIDERIES AND ARTISTIC RUGS CREATES ONE OF A KIND ROOMS THAT ARE WARM AND INVITING. HER ROOMS CAN BE SOPHISTICATED, ARTISTIC, MODERN, ETHNIC AND ORGANIC. I LOVE HER EXTENSIVE USE OF FABRICS AND EMBROIDERIES IN UNEXPECTED COLOR COMBINATIONS. THE PHOTOGRAPHS ARE VERY WELL DONE AND THE BOOK IS MADE OF GOOD QUALITY PAPERS. THIS BOOK WOULD BE MORE INTERESTING IF MURIEL INCORPORATED MORE PHOTOGRAPHS OF PLACES AND PEOPLE IN VIETNAM AND ELSEWHERE THAT HAVE INSPIRED HER WORKS. THE LARGE CLOSE UP PHOTOGRAPHS OF HER PRETTY EMBROIDERED HATS CAN BE SHRUNK TO MUCH SMALLER SIZE AND BE REPLACED WITH MORE PHOTOGRAPHS OF SKILLFUL WORKERS IN VIETNAM PRODUCING HER HANDICRAFTS. I HOPE THIS IS NOT MURIEL'S FIRST AND LAST BOOK. SHE IS A BRILLIANT DESIGNER WHO INSPIRES A LOT OF PRESENT AND FUTURE INTERIOR DESIGNERS AS WELL AS ORDINARY HOMEOWNERS WITH HER OUTSTANDING WORKS. IT IS MY PRIVILEGE TO HAVE SEEN SUCH BEAUTIFUL INTERIOR DESIGNS.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous, but previously published. March 8, 2013
Format:Hardcover
I am a huge fan of Muriel Brandolini's interiors. I was delighted to see a book of her work, as I have collected every magazine i could find with her designs. I had been hoping to see some interiors that had not previously been public. Unfortunately, this book seems to contain mostly previously published work--and not all of it, either--I had also been hoping to see reprints of some early work. (She did some fabulous early apartments, and even an early suburban home--less grand, but wonderfully imaginative.) To my disappointment, this book is mostly her most recent and previously published interior work. If you have not seen her houses, it is not to be missed; if you have the magazines (as I do), it's a little disappointing.

4.0 out of 5 stars the wonderful world of Brandolini January 17, 2013
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
Muriel Brandolini's wonderful bohemian style in all it's glory! I enjoyed reading the snippets from her clients about Brandolini, and learning of her life's story. She is wild, wonderful and real! A beautiful, substantial work with many photographs, I enjoyed seeing the evolution of the decorator's style.
