Review

"MADCAP AND WICKED: A VERY FUNNY NOVEL." --T. C. BOYLE, Pen/Faulkner Award-winning Author of WORLD'S END, DROP CITY and THE ROAD TO WELLVILLE

"IF ELMORE LEONARD WROTE A 30's SCREWBALL COMEDY SET IN THE LOWLIFE CRIME WORLD OF 90's L.A. IT MIGHT HAVE COME OUT LIKE THE WORLD'S MOST HANDSOME MAN. YES, IT'S THAT WEIRD. YOU SHOULD TAKE THIS RIDE." -- CHRISTOPHER MOORE, NY Times Bestselling Author of LAMB and FOOL

"WAYNE GRANT IS DESTINED TO BECOME ONE OF THE GREAT LITERARY HEROES OF ALL TIME. Kind of like Mr. Darcy, but not as smoldering, Rhett Butler, but not as sexy, Captain Von Trapp but with a much bigger ass. Mr. Grant bumbled and blundered his way into the frigid and forgotten chambers of my bitter heart. I laughed, I cried--this book became a part of me." --LAUREL MAY, Editor, 944 Magazine

"A SWEET, SHAMELESS WISECRACKING WONDER OF A BOOK ... a little bit West, a little bit Toole, a little bit Robbins -- the rest is pure Heaven." --JOHN HAWKES, film star, Me and You and Everyone We Know, Deadwood, American Gangster

"BRAVO! WHAT A WHACKY, CRAZY, FUNNY STORY! I finished it laughing." --ELIZABETH McKENZIE, author of Stop That Girl, and MacGregor Tells The World.

More About the Author

Edwin Heaven, like the hero in his novel, grew up in a movie theater.

Back when he was a little kid, there was no such thing as day care, so his mother gave him some peanut butter crackers and a chocolate malt and dropped him off at a matinee where he would spend the day watching dozens of cartoons, cliffhangers and comedy classics.

Today, along with being the author of the critically-acclaimed novel THE WORLD'S MOST HANDSOME MAN, he is also a screenwriter (original HOWARD THE DUCK for Stan Lee), a film director (THE ORGANIST "Two Spleens Up!" says HBO's Comedy Festival) and the celebrated inventor of THROX, The Cure for the Missing Sock (socks that come in threes, so when you lose one you still have a pair).

He enjoys baseball, kissing and collecting Neolithic dust. He currently lives in San Francisco with a 4 lb Yorkie named Harley--proof that life, indeed, imitates arf.

The World's Most Handsome Man is a funny, charming and delightful gem of a book. Mr. Heaven manages to mix the feel of old time film noir with the humor of today's world. Absolutely unique story line with a lead character you can't help but root for.

The dialogue is quick and snappy and the love story, albeit unconventional yet so delightful, will tug at your heartstrings.

Edwin Heaven is a wonderfully original and inventive writer and "The World's Most Handsome Man" signals the arrival of a great talent in our midst. The narrative is funny, clever, original and paints a vivid picture of the Hollywood underbelly and the culture of sex clubs/strip joints. Somehow, this writer manages to marry the two worlds with "heavenly" results.

I hope Edwin Heaven had as much fun writing this novel as I had reading it. "The World's Most Handome Man" is populated with hilarious characters and truly captures that seamy, bizarre side of L.A. It's a very enjoyable read and I bet it would make an even funnier movie!

The World’s Most Handsome Man is a wild and witty novel. To me it was interesting, wickedly funny and fun to read. It is based on a very captivating concept and filled with characters that have character. And what a tale. It was clearly written by a craftsman storyteller - a wordsmith who truly loves words. It is filled with fascinating phrases, plays-on-words, wisecracks and puns (in a good way). It has been a long time since I enjoyed a book so much. I recommend it.

As an aside, following The World’s Most Handsome Man I am starting John Le Carre's A Most Wanted Man. While I am sure it will be another great novel, I know it will be a very different reading experience.

This charming book is better than Prozac. If funny, freakish, warm hearted and clever is your bag then look no further. We need more stories like this in the world and Edwin Heaven's writing makes life worth living.
