These are GREAT!
Our sons both attended a private Kindergarten and this system was used. Both boys were reading by January of their Kindergarten year. Both were reading chapter books by first grade. And both were reading the Harry Potter series by the time they were 7.

The trick to these is to identify the letters by sound, not name. The back of the cards make this very easy. Don't worry if like me you forgot your basics, or never learned them! The sounds and RULES of each phonogram are listed. Your child will know how to decipher between F and PH or C and K.

In school, they had phonogram tests, like spelling tests.
I wish that all kids had the opportunity to be empowered with such accurate information from the start. Kids who have learned their ABC's will struggle at first because they think they know their letters. Start them out right with these! Nothing fancy here, no pictures to go with the symbols, just clear and coated for durability.
Used these 15 years ago and am thrilled to have found them again for the next generation coming up. My know it all granddaughter (5 yrs) who learns from TV doesn't like them, but my 3 year old nephew who goes to Montessori will.

These cards are a printed front and back on lightweight laminate. the front has the phonogram and the sounds, sample words, and instructional tips are on the back. The size of the cards, 4.25x3 inches, was smaller than I had anticipated, but ok for working with small groups of students.

These cards are just like the old Spalding cards we used when I was in school (with the old red Writing Road To Reading book), except for the physical card size seems just a bit smaller. The size is good though, haven't had any trouble. Great easy to read font, phonogram information easy to read/sound on back of the cards. Love the fact that these are laminate rather than card stock. Worth the investment to have the complete information on all the cards rather than make my own.

I was expecting a bigger, more 'robust' phonogram card. The card they are printed on are not as sturdy as I would have liked. (Having written this, they are not paper thin).

Otherwise the product arrived early and in great condition. The phonogram cards have been used successfully and they are most effective. These cards fulfil their function very well.

I have used the Spalding Phonogram Cards in the past and know how good they are. However, the picture shows the box for the larger size Spalding Phonogram Cards (which is what I wanted), but that is not what I received. The box pictured is for the sturdy box of class-size cards, which are 4.25" X 6". What I actually received is a flimsy, envelope-type box with small, individual-size cards, which are 3" X 4.25"--half the size of the larger cards. Also, the small cards are laminated--making them slick; and, they are not the sturdy weight card stock that you get with the class-size cards. Very disappointing! Go to [...] to see more details about the two types of cards. Since the two products are different, the ad should indicate that what is being sold is not what is pictured.

The cards are smaller than the cards my dd's teacher uses but they are good for home use. Has all the phonograms covered by the spalding method of reading. My daughter likes the smooth texture of the laminated cards and has to touch them constantly! I think they are a bit thin-would have preferred a much thicker card stock for preservation from wear and tear and so I didn't give five stars.
