Jackie Greene - Medicine

Discussing the imminent release of Giving Up the Ghost, his fifth album and first on 429 Records, Jackie Greene – singer and songwriter, guitarist and keyboard player, acoustic solo artist and electrifying band leader – hesitates to spell things out too much.

“Could we leave some questions unanswered?” he asks. “So people can make up their own minds about ... Read more in Amazon's Jackie Greene Store

Editorial Reviews

From coffee houses in the tiny Northern California town of Placerville to the open-mics of downtown Sacramento, Jackie Greene made the giant leap to nationally-known recording artist in just a few short years. Now signed to a major recording label, and touring throughout the US, Canada, and Europe, Mr. Greene can look back on a pretty impressive resume for a young man of only 26 years. His first DIG Music release, Gone Wanderin won the California Music Award for 'Best Blues/Roots Album' and over the next four years he continued to amass a critically acclaimed catalog of recordings that included four albums and a DVD. The DIG Years is a retrospective of the music that launched Greenes storied career. Included is an even dozen of Jackies most requested songs, plus 6 never-before-released tunes, making this not only a wonderful snapshot of one of Americas fastest rising starts, but a chance for fans, collectors, and the newly initiated to own a true piece of Americana.

4.0 out of 5 stars good introduction to Jackie Greene November 22, 2008
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This is an excellent introduction to Jackie Greene's earlier years. Half these songs are the greatest hits from his popular early CDs, but there are also several songs that I haven't heard before. The songs are mostly fast-paced, like his later work. Fans of his slower ballads won't find much that they like here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album December 12, 2012
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
My wife and I caught JG opening up for and playing with Bob Weir the other night and JG blew us away! I immediately went to Amazon for some of his music and found this album. It has a lot of the feel of the live show we saw. Looking forward to getting more of Jackie Greene's stuff !

3.0 out of 5 stars Just a little Greene.... January 1, 2008
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I loved Jackie Greene before hearing this compilation of his earlier songs, but it has left me feeling he is a flawed and mortal, but also steadily maturing, artist. Some of these songs are brilliant, but more often I'm left feeling he is too predictable, commercial, or immature with his adolescent wordcraft and obvious hooks, but then along comes his sweet harmonica and acoustic guitar and that rich folky voice and I can bear it till the next tune.

Greene is a talented writer and powerful performer, young and confident and destined for greatness. I think his latest CD (American Myth), and his earlier live (short) DVD and Sweet Somewhere Bound CD are 4 star efforts. This 2001 to 2005 retrospective shows him maturing and coming into his own. Many times he sounds like those who've influenced him (Dylanesque vocals and songsmithing, Big Head Toddish electric guitar, Neil Young harmonica, BTO pop-tunes, The Bandlike organ), but then he himself shines through or pulls it all together and makes it his own. He is a talent worth watching and following, it's just his older material is less consistently interesting.
