Book Description

View our feature on Annelise Hagen's The Yoga Face.

To keep their faces looking younger, women today try everything from invasive procedures such as plastic surgery and Botox to expensive cosmeceuticals. The Yoga Face is a new and completely natural alternative anti-aging regimen that women can do anytime and anywhere-and in just minutes. The exercises, developed by yoga expert and instructor Annelise Hagen, are based on a simple principle: The muscles of the face are no different from the muscles of the rest of the body. If you don't exercise the muscles below the neck, they become weak and flabby, and the same thing will happen to your face with age. Just as yoga routines work the muscles in the body, the stretches and movements in The Yoga Face tighten and tone the face muscles-and combat wrinkles. "Working out" with fun facial exercises such as the Louis Armstrong "Satchmo," the Marilyn Monroe "kiss," and the "Lion Face," readers will notice changes quickly; and over time, the results are dramatic. Illustrated with more than seventy-five instructive photos throughout, The Yoga Face offers an easy, safe, and effective solution to help women turn back the clock and have beautiful, young-looking skin.

More About the Author

At age 36, my face fell apart. It was surprising. After all, I am a Yoga teacher. I take care of myself, eat well, and live a healthy lifestyle. Shocked at this turn of events,I looked around and discovered that I wasn't alone. A lot of my upscale clients were starting to show signs of aging in their faces, though their bodies were toned and sleek from exercise.

Then it hit me: if Yoga could tone and strengthen the muscles of my body and make me feel youthful, why couldn't it be targeted to the face?

I began to research the subject, combining my knowledge of Yoga with new information about facial relaxation, acupressure, and exercise principles. I learned that exercising facial muscles tones them, reinvigorates them, and even stimulates collagen production for renewed resilience and lift. I used Yoga to redirect blocked energy and move the Life Force up to the face.

I began teaching workshops around New York, which led to ongoing classes in facial rejuvenation. I was astonished to see results on my students' faces, and my own. Thus, the Yoga Face was born. My mission is to remind my students (and myself)that we are ageless, both inside and out. We just have to harness the power of healing and transformation that ancient medicine and modern science offer.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very Dissapointed January 18, 2008
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I expected this book to have wonderful up close pictures to show you how to do the poses, well....the pictures that it does have are tiny and in black and white, hard to see fully and alot more writing than I think was needed. I seen this book on Rachel Ray and seen the woman who wrote it at her studio teaching and it looked great, the book not so. I was very dissapointed in it and will have to find another one that I can see better and understand better. It could have at least been in color to see a little better.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Yoga Face June 19, 2008
By CT
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
It is a good book with lots of exercises. I thought that there would be more face specific exercises, but there are many standard yoga positions throughout the book. My understanding of yoga is limited, so I thought that the whole book would be just the face. Many of the body exercises also exercise the face or get blood flow to the skin of the face. I rated it a three mostly because of my expectations. I think she really explains the reasons and hows of the positions and exercises.

5.0 out of 5 stars yoga for the face
Excellent book. However, you have to keep up these exercises to achieve the results, and continue to perform the exercises to maintain the results.
