More About the Author

At age 36, my face fell apart. It was surprising. After all, I am a Yoga teacher. I take care of myself, eat well, and live a healthy lifestyle. Shocked at this turn of events,I looked around and discovered that I wasn't alone. A lot of my upscale clients were starting to show signs of aging in their faces, though their bodies were toned and sleek from exercise.

Then it hit me: if Yoga could tone and strengthen the muscles of my body and make me feel youthful, why couldn't it be targeted to the face?

I began to research the subject, combining my knowledge of Yoga with new information about facial relaxation, acupressure, and exercise principles. I learned that exercising facial muscles tones them, reinvigorates them, and even stimulates collagen production for renewed resilience and lift. I used Yoga to redirect blocked energy and move the Life Force up to the face.

I began teaching workshops around New York, which led to ongoing classes in facial rejuvenation. I was astonished to see results on my students' faces, and my own. Thus, the Yoga Face was born. My mission is to remind my students (and myself)that we are ageless, both inside and out. We just have to harness the power of healing and transformation that ancient medicine and modern science offer.

I expected this book to have wonderful up close pictures to show you how to do the poses, well....the pictures that it does have are tiny and in black and white, hard to see fully and alot more writing than I think was needed. I seen this book on Rachel Ray and seen the woman who wrote it at her studio teaching and it looked great, the book not so. I was very dissapointed in it and will have to find another one that I can see better and understand better. It could have at least been in color to see a little better.

It is a good book with lots of exercises. I thought that there would be more face specific exercises, but there are many standard yoga positions throughout the book. My understanding of yoga is limited, so I thought that the whole book would be just the face. Many of the body exercises also exercise the face or get blood flow to the skin of the face. I rated it a three mostly because of my expectations. I think she really explains the reasons and hows of the positions and exercises.

As a former smoker in my late 30's in a high-stress job, I am especially concerned about my face showing age before its time. I practice yoga once in awhile but I am no expert. I saw the author's segment on Rachel Ray, so I thought I'd get this book and give these exercises a try. I have to say, this book is more than I expected. The exercises are fun and exhilarating. Some of them look a little silly, but I almost think that's by design. I had to let go of my worries about what I looked like doing these exercises before I could really get into them. But once I did that, it's been great! I definitely feel a firmer muscle tone and see a more radiant skin tone after just a few weeks of regular practice. The Yoga Face is also teaching me to relax my face when I experience stress, so I am learning to get the stress out of my facial expressions and keep it out! The Yoga Face also includes chapters on lifestyle choices like a healthy diet and natural cosmetics. I like the way the author uses supportive, encouraging language in her writing. I have taken classes taught by yoga instructors whom were either airy-fairy and pretentious or demanding and intimidating. By contrast, this yogi author is down-to-earth, light-hearted, funny and informative all the while. I recommend this book to anyone interested in maintaining a healthy youthful appearance without resorting to expensive, invasive procedures. I also recommend it to anyone who wants to learn about yoga without feeling like they need to wrap themselves in a sari and jet off to India.

I was lucky enough to take a Yoga Face workshop "live" with the author on a yoga retreat last year. I practice a lot of yoga but still find it a challenge to relax my face, especially around my chin and jaw. After the workshop, my lower face felt more relaxed - I could definitely feel how the techniques would be effective with practice. So I was thrilled to learn that Ms Hagen has codified her teachings into a book to share with a larger public. It's a keeper!

If you have had plastic surgery, botox, etc. this book is for you because you have the perfect teacher to help you tone up the muscles under your skin in your face and neck and there are many. I am in it for the spiritual high and Anna Lise, an awesome teacher has helped me take the anger and toxic feelings that make me look so angry and lighten up. I love the vibrational sounds, mantra and kissing excercises (you don't need a partner to do the "kissing toners" for you mouth and under your chin) and this fun delightful, playful book which will brighten your day, make you smile and feeling better is the key to looking better! The book and the author are beautiful, intelligent, spiritually empowering and just plain fun to buy it, read it, do one or as many practices as you like and you feel and look better from the inside out! Om shanti!

This book is fantastic! It has changed everything in the way I think about myself and my health. I was this close to going to have some adjustments done on my face-surgery and then this book was presented to me. It has made me take stock and make time for myself and my health. Instead of a surgical procedure, I now do exercises of the faces and the body. I stretch and detoxify.....I listen more and pay attention. I have never done this. I recommend everyone doing The Yoga-Face! And did I mention, people have been saying that I look years younger....I love that!!!!
