Book Description

June 23, 2012
The New York Commuter's Glossary is a collection of words and phrases--neologisms, mashups, made-up terms--that defines the life of the train commuter into, out of, and around New York City, from the tense fight for leg room with the rider facing you ("kneegotiations"), to the frightening feeling of waking up on the train and bolting for the door, certain that the present stop is your own ("tramnesia"), to the husband and wife pairs that ride together each day ("train couplings") to the almost always available row of seats near the toilet (the "stenchbench", of course). The words and definitions are vibrantly illustrated by acclaimed artist Joseph Walden to fully depict the maddening life of a commuter, and the heart--and humor--buried in the humdrum act of riding the rails with a few thousand strangers each day.

5.0 out of 5 stars So Funny and Spot-On June 26, 2012
By Susan
Format:Paperback
The definitions in this book are witty, observant, and brilliant. If you take a train to work--or know someone who does--this book is a must-buy. It really sums up what commuting is all about, and it will equip you with handy new words to use to describe those strange situations that arise when strangers are shoved together out of necessity.

A fun way to catch a few laughs, and blow off some steam on your crowded commute in and out of the steamy city. Bring this along to make the time fly, and entertain your fellow riders with some amusing anecdotes of train travel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliantly Funny August 4, 2012

Chuckled through the whole book. If you're a commuter or have ever been, you'll be able to relate. Even my 13 year old son was thumbing through it. My husband loved it so much he kept asking me to share it on facebook. Get it!
