4.0 out of 5 stars Refined and elegant January 12, 2010
Format:Audio CD
A British costume drama directed by Jean-Marc Vallée, The Young Victoria tells the story of the early life of the soon-to-be Queen Victoria, who ruled Britain for 63 years from 1837 until 1901, and enjoyed a great life-long love with her consort, Prince Albert. Emily Blunt plays Victoria as a young romantic, deeply in love with Albert (Rupert Friend), both before and after her accession to the throne. The film, which was co-produced by Martin Scorsese and Sarah Ferguson (formerly the Duchess of York), features a plethora of British senior actors in supporting roles, including Miranda Richardson, Jim Broadbent, Paul Bettany, Mark Strong and Julian Glover, has rich and opulent production design and costumes, and has a strong score by British composer Ilan Eshkeri.

As one might expect given the nature of the film, the score is very classical, very regal, very English, and very romantic; it's also very beautiful in parts, especially in the sequences which depict the budding relationship between Victoria and her handsome German prince. Several cues are direct adaptations of classical standards. The opening cue, "Childhood", features a stirring performance of the traditional British coronation anthem, Handel's Zadok the Priest, and "The King's Birthday" adapts several classic Strauss waltzes into an Edwardian party mix, while other cues intentionally invoke the stylistics and melodic strength of Antonin Dvorák, Henry Purcell, as well as a direct reference to Franz Schubert's "Swan Song" in the cue of the same name.

Eshkeri's main contributions are the two themes for the central personas, "Go to England, Make Her Smile" and "Down the Stairs".

5.0 out of 5 stars Award-worthy Musical Score~ January 11, 2010
Format:Audio CD
I saw this movie, loved it and rushed home to download the soundtrack! Beautiful! Those who liked the Pride & Prejudice musical score will like this one, as much, if not more. My favorite tracks are: Childhood, Marriage Proposal and Honeymoon. Lovely! Indeed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Beautiful Music! March 31, 2010
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I went on a date with a lady from Latvia. I asked her to pick a movie for the two of us to see. I had no idea, (This is from my preception) of what we were going to see, or what this movie was going to be about. I do have to say, that is a beautiful movie, one that should be watched in a theater. Now I am going to say what I was saying almost from the first scene-OMG!, the sound was and is incredible. For those who do not get to view this movie in a theater, buy the sound track. The music is stunning at certain points, but very solid the whole way through. The recording of the sound is great. G

4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT SOUNDTRACK March 10, 2010
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Album's Handel piece and the waltzes are especially pretty. "Only You" is very melodic too. Can't understand why this was not nominated for an academy award. The complete CD was very difficult to get.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Top 5 Scores of 2009 February 4, 2010
Format:Audio CD
Beauty permeates this music. Ilan Eshkeri (much loved composer of Stardust) really puts his Midas touch on this soundtrack. No matter what sort of film music you like, you'll find something to adore! I was very impressed at the flawlessly classical execution of 99% percent of this music (the other 1% is made up of delicious underscoring.) Bits of the score reminded me of Stardust, other bits reminded me of Mozart! With "The Young Victoria" Mr. Eshkeri has further solidified himself as one of the very top composer in the industry... and I await his next score with much anticipation!

5.0 out of 5 stars Suitably Grand And Romantic April 9, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
The music for The Young Victoria is appropriately beautiful, grand with echoes of Handel and other royal musicians, but also romantic, with elements of nineteenth century opera and waltz music. Queen Victoria was a headstrong, passionate young woman who deeply loved her studious, dedicated husband Prince Albert. The movie does an excellent job portraying that, and the soundtrack could not have been better devised. I especially enjoyed the first track, which accompanies the opening scenes showing Victoria's coronation, and also the long dance music selection designed to accompany Victoria's appearance at Windsor Castle at the court of her uncle King William IV.

5.0 out of 5 stars Romantic Music March 22, 2010
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Music always makes or breaks a movie, and this music is certainly in the former category. It's romantic music for a beautifully romantic movie. Especially touching is the song sung by Sinead O'Connor. I could listen to this album all day long.

5.0 out of 5 stars Look for the "factory sealed" description!
It is exactly what I expected; as far as movie sound tracks go. The item was factory sealed, not just amateurly shrink wrapped.
