Review

"Social Media Examiner gives this book 5 stars." - Social Media Examiner (in reference to 1st edition.)

"She provides detailed instructions for launching social media campaigns and sound guidance for fully leveraging and optimizing search engines, web sites, and blogs. VERDICT: Kabani’s assertion that this is 'the last social media guide you’ll ever need' has merit, as anyone purchasing this also has access to a continually updated online version. Highly recommended for anybody with anything to market online—including him- or herself."

We all want to connect with our customers and clients in a meaningful way online, but knowing how to do this across the different social media platforms is tricky! Thankfully, Shama has figured this out for us. The Zen of Social Media Marketing is packed full of tips, shortcuts, and step-by-step business savvy that you can't find anywhere else.

As the owner of a marketing business myself, I consistently reference this book for new ideas and strategies to use with my own clients. Each time I pick up this book, I have to put it down almost immediately so that I can get started implementing! There's so much juicy material in this book that I just bought the audiobook as well, so that I can be on the go and listen to it again and again.

Whether you're a solopreneur looking to grow your own business, or a marketing director for a large corporation, you'll get a lot out of this book. For small business teams, it's like having your own marketing team in a book!

Shama has done an outstanding job of clearly and concisely explaining how each of the social sites should be used effectively. As COO in a large financial firm I constantly work with social media on a daily basis. I am convinced after reading the book and using her strategies that not only does Shama articulate and understand social media marketing but she knows what it takes to execute in order generate leads, sales and positive exposure for any business. This a great read for a plane ride and extremely enjoyable!

I wouldn't call myself an expert at social media because who really is? It changes every day. Overall this book has great tips and gives a really good insight of what you can expect from being on social media as a business. Some of the data is not up to date since the book is from 2010 and so much has changed in just two years. But put very simplistic and makes it easy for someone to launch social media themselves. Also has great insight from others in the industry or who have used social media.

I had initially read a library copy of this book. I was so impressed (and realizing that social media changes so quickly) that I bought 2 copies of the most current edition from Amazon. Why 2 copies? I wanted to make a gift to a business associate who is starting up a company and needs to build brand awareness.

There are probably others like me who avoided social media because all I ever saw was meaningless banter. However, I now realize how I've been missing the big picture. It is a practical communication tool that can help individuals (and their companies) build a global presence. I'm getting started with the ideas from the book, sharing my expertise in risk management. Thanks, Shama.

I bought her first book with the same title and was completely impressed. So naturally when this book came out I had to have it. Once again, money well spent. You see I also help clients get their websites ranked and I feel you can never know enough. She really hits the mark. Great book

I am in charge of the internet presence, website development, and social media management of a few companies. I have always wanted to learn more in the ways of Search Engine Optimization and utilizing Web 2.0 in the best possible way for my own company and those I work for. This book had great reviews and was very cheap, so I thought, what the heck, now's the time to start learning, right?

Boy was I not expecting what gems of information Shama had to offer. Not only was this book laid out in snippets that were easy to understand, enjoyable to read, and quick to get through, but I was really entertained every step of the way. The knowledge this woman has to offer is genuine, human, and vast. Like another reviewer said, I really had to keep putting the book down to keep trying and implementing the ideas she offered, and at the same time, I just wanted to keep reading! I really had no idea there were so many simple and yet powerful things that could make Social Media and blogging so effective. My Kindle is wrought with highlights and notes aplenty.

One thing I wanted to note that I find is most important of all: Shama is honest and "real" with her advice. She does not use the reader to gain more "likes" and "+1"s on her pages. She does not give you exercises that boost the publicity and traffic to her own websites. She urges the reader to be honest with his or her fans, to always be true to being a genuine person in search for relationships and connections, and to never use these social media tools as mechanisms for spam or dishonest behavior.

I'm a bit sad this book is over but now that it is, I have SO many ideas to implement into our company website and social media pages once they're up and running 100%. I have already used several of her ideas and although they do take effort and dedication, I am proud to be seeing some results already.

Two thumbs up and highly recommended.

You know people trying to make sense of Social Media: give them this book. Shama is an amazing talent and she poured a lot of herself into this book. I use it as a text for my course offerings in Marketing.

As a CEO, I read this book to give me an overview of the social media landscape and to understand the tactics being recommended by my marketing people. We'll now be able to work together more effectively to design our strategy and implement those tactics, thanks to Shama's book.
