The classic Christmas poem re-imagined and reanimated! ‘twas the night before Christmas And all through the house The zombies were stirring…
Why worry about the Grinch when you’ve got ZOMBIES on the attack! Their prey? America’s best-loved Christmas poem. Get ready to have a holly jolly zombie holiday with this monstrously funny mash-up that subverts all that tiresomely good Christmas cheer. Clement C. Moore’s verses are tweaked and twisted, turning a once-cozy fireside read-aloud on its (now brainless) head. To complete the sacrilege: hilarious renderings of zombie stockings (undead legs!) hung by the chimney with care, and St. Nick attempting to repel a full-out, flesh-devouring zombie attack. One thing’s for sure—Santa and his eight tiny reindeer will never be the same!

Clement Clarke Moore was a professor of religion and the author of several scholarly works. What he is most remembered for, however, is his poem "An Account of a Visit from St. Nicholas," later called "The Night Before Christmas," and written as a Christmas gift for his six children.
Who says the living dead don't deserve a Christmas too? "The Zombie Night Before Christmas" tells the story of the Night Before Christmas and adds Santa to a world where the craving for sugar plums has been replaced with brains. With humor and complete with slightly grotesque illustrations, "The Zombie Night Before Christmas" is a fine read, and a fine addition to any Christmas collection.
Honestly this is just a riot. I wouldn't suggest you read this to the kids in lieu of the original story--unless your kids have an extraordinarily mature mindset that seeing Santa's reindeer ripped to shreds won't bother--but for the older set and horror fans this may do the trick. Kelley's clever substitutions flow well for the most part, but occasionally will falter. Its only to be expected, to keep the 'spirit' of the original certain phrases have to be in there, but they sound out of place given the context (such as Santa's jolly round belly jiggling with blood).
The illustrations are the creepier part I think. Little kids dreaming of sugared limbs? Undead reindeer flitting through the sky? Santa's bag of toys mysteriously filling with severed limbs? If nothing else it you'll look at the holiday differently!
I bought this book as a "gag gift" for my husband. It came in today and I've been getting a kick out of it. The quality of the book is great. It has funny drawings and is over-all a great purchase for the zombie obsessed!
